Product Description

Platinum Series Rotary Tumbler The Platinum Series Rotary Tumbler delivers a new level of brass cleaning performance. Rotary tumbling with stainless steel media in a liquid bath gets brass much cleaner and works much faster than ultrasonic or vibratory tumbling methods. The small stainless pins easily penetrate inside cases and into primer pockets to deliver unbeatable cleaning power. The large volume drum holds up to 1000 pieces of.223 brass and has a molded in rubber lining to protect brass and dampen noise during operation. A built in timer in the base can be set to run from 0 to 3 hours, shutting off automatically. A set of sifting end caps is also included to assist in separating the stainless media once tumbling is complete. The tumbler can effectively clean without the use of stainless media pins with a mixture of Frankford Brass Cleaning Solution and water (use of media pins ensures primer pockets and inside of cases are perfectly clean). I have been using a high end vibrating brass cleaning system for 35+ years and even though it is still going strong, I have been interested in this type of brass cleaning for several years. The big hold back for me was the high cost of getting into it. I saw this hit the market and many sellers offering a complete set up under two hundred dollars and free shipping to boot. I watched a few videos by average guys and took the plunge. Within an hour of getting this in my hot little hands I had about 800 .223 casings turning away. I was surprised on how quiet it was compared to vibrating in walnut shells. This is not totally silent by any means, but it could be used in another room without drowning out the tv. I let it run for the full 3 hours as a lot of my brass was old and or range pick up. It looked almost like brand new and may not have needed that long to get to that point. My older system I would have probably needed a minimum of 24 hours, probably 48 to get this shiny and I still would have dirty primer pockets to clean out later.
After watching a lot of videos I decided to use Dawn dish soap, (1 tsp.) and Lemi Shine, ( 1/4 tsp.) and found that worked just fine as a cleaning agent. You are warned in the instructions to not use cleaners that can hurt the plastic or destroy the rubber lining in the barrel. I would also recommend looking at magnets, ( the little pins get loose on you no matter how hard you try) a media sifter, and a universal depriming die. You will want to take advantage on this units ability to clean your primer pockets but do not want to use your regular dies with dirty brass. One last thing I noticed was that even the necks of my brass were nice and clean which didn't always happen with the vibrating systems. This is important for me as I do anneal my brass and having it just as clean as the rest of the case makes it much easier to judge the proper color change. No more dust for me!

I have been using a vibrating brass cleaning system with walnut/corn cob media for years, it cleaned reasonably well, but there was still carbon inside the case and primer pocket. In my pursuit of long range precision ammo I decided to give the water/stainless pins media a try I expected incremental improvement, but this has turned out to be a quantum leap. The brass looks like 95% of what virgin brass looks like. The brass is way cleaner, primer pockets 95% of new brass. I used my bore scope to look inside the .308 cases and they are very clean. I use one ounce of Blue Coral Car Wash & Wax and 1/4 teaspoon of Lemi Shine. The Blue Coral works better than Dawn because it prevents tarnish that develops after a couple of weeks

This is the only unit built to be an ammo brass cleaning system not a rock tumbler. It has no belt to break, it is gear driven, a big plus. I hope it has a longevity, time will tell.

What you have been reading about cartridge cleaning with Stainless steel media is all true....It works, and it works better then any other cartridge cleaning technique.....With the right solution it truly cleans the cases inside and out pretty much effortlessly.....

The Franklin tumbler itself is sturdy and well made......It uses plastic, but it uses the plastic in the right application....
Some reviewers seem to think it turns to fast, but they are forgetting this unit was designed from the ground up to be a cartridge tumbler....
Its not a rock tumbler which has to spin at a lower RPM so the rocks are not smashed to pieces...The higher RPM allows this tumbler to get done in three hours what a rock tumbler would take six to complete...

The unit is not quiet....The tumbling cartridges make quite a racket....Definitely something to consider if your an apartment dweller...

A sturdy media tumbler & pick up magnet are a must....

I put 500 5.56 once fired military brass in the tumbler for three hours and they pretty much look new.....When you dump the water out you notice the water is black.....Stainless steel pin tumbling really is the only style of cartridge cleaning that truly scrubs the inside of the cartridge case and primer pocket this well....

I had dabbled with alternate cleaning methods for my brass but found them ineffective (ultrasonic) or messy (Thumblers Tumbler)....Then I tried this tumbler from Frankford Arsenal and fell in love. It's still a little messy but because FA specifically designed this for cartridges it works a lot better than the 'general purpose' tumblers that most people have used before.

This model features a molded in rubber liner...compared to the loose liner in the Thumbler. It features easy-on, see-through end caps (on both ends) instead of the multi-thumb nut lid found on others. It's also molded HDPE instead of metal (so no rusting or scaling). The base station has a built in timer AND is direct drive instead of using belts (that stretch, slip, or break).

I've used this with full (30 pounds) loads twice and half loads 4 or 5 times. This design easily cuts the messiness from the other tumblers in half. The use of plastic (the good way), direct drive, and other handy features make this an EXCELLENT buy for using as a cartridge prep device. For straight wall pistol cartridges it's a 'good' upgrade but your basic vibratory tumbers work just as good...but for bottleneck pistol or rifle rounds this thing is magic! Cleans inside and out and primer pocket so well that the rounds look brand new. It will probably replace my Lyman 1200 for my rifle rounds just because of that.....like I said...for straight wall, fairly clean pistol brass it's not needed but every so often to get the deep grime/corrosion off.

The .041 pins are fine...heard stories about them sticking in holes....but have had ONE that had lodged SIDEWAYS in the neck of the round (not the primer pocket)...and that's out of @3k rounds of .223 I've run through it.

No complaints...just works and cleans the brass AMAZINGLY!!
