4.0 out of 5 stars epitome of math rock, July 23, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Frankfurt: Telephonics (Audio CD)
I don't know what in the world the other review listed here was all about...that guy's nuts. But Mars Accelerator's most recent effort is certainly out there. PLENTY of lo-fi type studio trickery and effects (a veritable contradiction, but it somehow makes sense) make this album a real mindwarper, especially if enjoyed through headphones. If you can actually discern any of the lyrics, or work your way through the (incomplete) lyrics sheet you'll be quite rewarded. This guy seems as if he read an astrophysics book, a dictionary, and the Tibetan Book of the Dead all in one sitting, then managed to throw them all together while cooking dinner on mind-altering psychotropics. Very weird album, but there is certainly an underlying pop sensibility (I hate to use that cliche, but there is some truth to it.). Or at least a thorough knowledge of what makes a catchy song. Mars Accelerator is obviously from the Pacific Northwest, which I guess is a good thing. Hope this otherwise outstanding and truly different album is not lumped in with all the other math rock hogwash coming from up there.

5.0 out of 5 stars absolutely amazing, July 2, 2003

This review is from: Frankfurt: Telephonics (Audio CD)
I love this album. The music is not an easy listen and is simply overwhelming when I first heard the cd. There is so much going on here - densly packed - multiple change ups and start/ stop tempos - new turns around after each chorus - complex arrangements - fabulous, rich production. My love for this cd after many years in my collection not dwindled. The three member band's live shows feature blistering sets of frenetic space/math rock with glorious abandon. My only complaint - why has it been five years since this release and still no new material?

5.0 out of 5 stars This is one of the most unique music I have ever heard., August 23, 1998
This review is from: Frankfurt: Telephonics (Audio CD)
Frankfurt Telephonics is very uniqe and therefore one of the best I have heard...of course after Michael Jackson's "History". Frankfurt Telehonics album made me wonder if it is going to be the future "Mozart". It is so creative. It makes you wonder in awe and contemplate on your day-to-day life...how there is music everywhere...in our daily conversations, in the birds singing, in the dog barking, in the car engine that runs, or kitchen utensils, in a baby's talk and so on. If only one could stand and listen to the music within us, in our environment. This CD has the music to revolutionize the music industry. I do hope to hear more from the artists.
