Editorial Reviews

An insane comedy about two brothers, a girl with a broken heart, a sex tape, an angel. And a pig...   For his whole life Frank (Charlie Hunnam) has been tortured, embarrassed and humiliated on film by his horrible brother, Bruce (Chris O’Dowd). When Bruce makes and uploads a video of a disastrous one-night stand of Frank’s, the sex tape immediately becomes a viral hit and things really hit the fan. Will Jack (Chris Noth), Bruce’s violent drug-fiend rehab buddy, find out it’s his daughter (Lizzy Caplan) in the video? Can Phyllis (Ron Perlman), Bruce’s transsexual computer hacker prison buddy, get them out of trouble? Frankie Go Boom is an outrageous comedy about brotherly hate, amateur porn and the dangers of online fame.

Frankie Go Boom is ridiculous in the best way. Lots of laughs, great characters caught up in ludicrous situations, terrific acting by a wonderful cast, with writing and direction by the talented Jordan Roberts. If you're looking for something unusual that will make you laugh out loud, this is it. But a warning -- it absolutely deserves its "R" rating. Not for anyone under 16, and probably not even for all 16 year olds. But it is funny, funny, funny -- with a lot of heart.

One of the funniest (and silliest) films I've seen in a long time. If you've never seen Sons Of Anarchy, some of the scenes might not be as funny, but if you have, knowing the "relationship" between Jax (Hunnam) and Clay (Perlman) and then seeing them together in this film will have you doubled over with laughter. Charlie has some great comedic moments. which is a nice change from the brooding dramatic character he normally plays. For a little indie movie I think this was an awarding winning "piece of work"....

Great movie, and Ron Pearlman as Phyllis steals the show. Great comical movie without all of the hollywood bs in it. The characters are great and realistic. Its a movie about a guy whose brother has been a horrible jerk to him all of his life, and when he finally finds someone who makes him happy his brother tries to make up for all of the crap he put him through by trying to fix one of the lastest things he's done to Frank. This is a great film, but I do not recommend it for anyone under the age of 18. I hope my review has helped you in deciding whether or not to rent or purchase this film.

I am confused about the hype and raves for this film. It is a wanna-be quirky independent film using trite jokes and unreal situations in a world that doesn't require a release form. We are told that Bruce has spent his life torturing and filming his brother Frankie from the film blurb. We get to see one quick episode, hear about a second one, that really had nothing to do with Bruce and the movie is about a third one that again, Bruce (Chris O'Dowd) just happens to film.

The whole set up and building of characters was done in a very poor fashion. The get together of Frankie(Charlie Hunnam) and Lassie (Lizzy Caplan) was slightly humorous, but there was no good follow up. Bruce was extremely unlikeable. Frankie only slightly less so. The characters overall are meh, even the over the top Ron Pearlman..."call me Phyllis now" tried so hard to be funny, that it wasn't.

This is a sex comedy that lacks the crudeness of successful sex comedies, and lacks the cleverness of a good indie. It is a hybrid that doesn't reproduce. Some may find it amusing, I don't recommend it, even as a rental.

    Parental Guide: F-bomb, sex, nudity.

I didn't expect much when I watched this movie. Being a HUGE Charlie Hunnam fan , I gave it a shot! I'm glad I did. I was hooked immediately. I didn't know how C.H. would do in a comedy film but he NAILED it. All the actors were great. I couldn't stop laughing. For all you Sons fans this is a treat to see "Jax & Clay" in these roles. I liked it so much that I just HAD to buy DVD. If you're up for a really good laugh check this movie out. You won't be disappointed!

Frankie go Boom is a hilarious movie! Charlie Hunnam is fantastic and Ron Perlman playing a woman had me rolling. Its nice to see these bad ass bikers in a comedy. All of the actors though were great and the movie is just real and something I could watch all the time.

Frankie Go Boom is a refreshingly fun, ridiculous story about brothers, families, recovering alcoholic actors, a gorgeous transgender Ron Perlman and an equally lovely domestic pig. The dynamic between Charlie Hunnam and Chris O'Dowd perfectly sets up the chaos that ensues as they try to secure a video gone AWOL. The movie takes the big brother/little brother relationship to an entirely outrageous level, while incorporating several unique and equally outrageous, funny characters who help or inhibit their quest. As always, Lizzy Caplan does a great job in the role of the quirky, damsel in distress to Charlie Hunnam's charming & endearing, but blundering, knight-in-shining armor. Mr. Hunnam's character in this movie is a stark contrast to the role he plays in Sons of Anarchy, but he provides a great performance as the poor victim of his brother's shenanigans.

I was only disappointed that the pig, poignantly portrayed by the inimitable Oliver Ham Austin, didn't get a little more screen time. His moving performance during the pool scene? Oscar-worthy. Oscar-worthy, my friend.
