5.0 out of 5 stars Explaining the Harsh Realities of Our World to the Innocent

1.0 out of 5 stars No connection!
Interesting that Ms. Conte living in Rochester has this firsthand vision of a child living miles away in Syracuse the morning of September 11, 2001. Story is so filled with Ms. Conte's vision that we never realy know young Frankie. Barely convencing and written by a community college graduate who diminishes the stories of the NYC children who so suffered that day!

5.0 out of 5 stars Explaining the Harsh Realities of Our World to the Innocent, February 12, 2002
This review is from: Frankie Wonders ... What Happened Today? (Paperback)
When September 11th, 2001 passed through our lives, I wondered how I could explain this horrible event to my children and other children. Usually, I am not tongue-tied, but in this situation I was. How can I simultaneously be honest and not cause children to suffer from anxiety, fear, and nightmares? How could I possibly hope to make something positive from this ugly situation? I wanted to minimize and avoid the topic. Yet, I knew my children could sense how deeply this had impacted all of us and they deserved some explanation.

This wonderful book, "Frankie Wonders...What Happened Today?" , provides me with words and pictures that help me talk to my children, provided me with peace of mind to have discovered it, and provided me with a tool to happily share with others. It includes all of the important elements of good children's literature: a character to identify with, a sense of safety, a positive outcome, and genuine feelings. Frankie experiences a range of feeling throughout this book. And in the end, discovers safety and a positive direction to take his feelings.

I recommend this extraordinary book to any parent or person who wants help explaining the harsh realities of our world to the innocent. Bravo! Thank you Yvonne Conte!

5.0 out of 5 stars A review on Frankie Wonders...., January 24, 2002

All of America was touched by the events on September 11th, including children. "Frankie Wonders ...What Happened Today" not only gives the reader a perspective from a childs view on that particular day but also shows how many of us reacted with our children during that situation. This touching and emotional, illustrative publication shows the strength there is through family and how we as parents and our children offer support to each another in times of national tragedy and crisis. This heart filled book simply blessed me as I read about Frankie's questions, reactions, concerns, responses and above all how he wanted to do something about what happened on that day. Finally, the author does an exceptional job of providing a simple 10 point list of things that we could do not only in times of tragedy but anytime with our children and grandchildren. Thanks Yvonne!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Memorial to those who died and who helped that day!, February 2, 2002
This review is from: Frankie Wonders ... What Happened Today? (Paperback)
I read this wonderfully illustrated book to my little sister and it was a great way to get us talking about all kinds of things. I will keep this book on my shelf as a reminder of what a fantastic country we live in and how everyone came to help when the people of NY needed help. We should all be very proud of where we live and of what our country stands for and this book is a good way to keep that thought alive. THREE CHEERS FOR FRANKIE!!

What a poignant way to communicate such a horrible and tragic event that befell us all. Ms. Conte was able to express the childs need to know very skillfully and provide answers that a child can relate to. An enjoyable read for adults as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful simple book for children dealing with tragedies, December 26, 2001

This review is from: Frankie Wonders ... What Happened Today? (Paperback)
The book is a very well written and simple story from a child's perspective of the September 11 disaster. Puts into words a lot of questions children may have regarding the tragic events. I highly recommemend this book for ANY parent with a child old enough to understand something happened, but too young to understand why.
