A Delight from Start to Finish!, August 15, 2011
This review is from: Frankie's Perfect Home (Paperback)
Frankie's Perfect Home is a charming adventure from start to finish! Children will relate to Frankie's frustration with his crowded burrows, especially with all those annoying brothers. Who can sleep with some one's tail in your eyes or a foot in your mouth? His adventures as he wanders the Texas landscape are a perfect combination of excitement, close calls, and a growing realization of what truly makes a house (or burrow) a real home. Besides the tightly crafted writing, a hallmark of all of McClure's work, the illustrations by Alexander Morris are fresh and exuberant as a spring morning on the prairie. Bravo to Beverly Stowe McClure on her first, and hopefully, not last picture book!

Frankie Armadillo's Discovery for a New Home, August 15, 2011
This review is from: Frankie's Perfect Home (Paperback)
Frankie Armadillo has had enough of his cramped living quarters and sneaks off into the night. Determined to find the perfect home he treks from place to place. Starting out in a hole beneath a house, to tunnels beneath trees, to deserted barns, and more; no place meets his expectations. Scared, hungry, and cold Frankie Armadillo continues his quest for what he believes will be the perfect home. Will Frankie realize that "there is no place like home?" or will he find a place to call his own? "Frankie rested for a minute. "I can't give up now, I need a place to sleep." So he lifted his chin, slipped out of the log, and stepped into the softest soil that squeezed right through his toes." Journey along with Frankie Armadillo on an adventure like non-other and discover what Frankie comes across and learns what he knew all along. Beverly Stowe McClure brings to life the world of Frankie Armadillo in a delightful imaginary way that the reader almost forgets Frankie is not human. Frankie's Perfect Home is sure to be a wonderful addition to your home or school library for the youngest of children.

Home, Sweet, Home, February 17, 2012
This review is from: Frankie's Perfect Home (Paperback)
Beverly Stowe McClure has written a charming children's book about an armadillo who wants to find a home just for himself. His present home is too crowded with siblings and he thinks he will be happier in a home of his own. "Frankie Armadillo pushed Monty's claw off his nose. He swatted Phil's tail out of his eyes. He coughed Bill's foot from his mouth." Frankie's adventures take him to several places and into adventures as he searches for the right place to live. He finds that searching for a home and providing his own food is not as grand in reality as it was in his thoughts. This book, written for 4-8 year olds, is one you will have to share with your children. They will want to read and re-read it. The illustrations by Alexander Morris depict Frankie's worries perfectly as he searched for his home. Younger non-readers will love to pour over the pictures pointing out the funny and serious aspects of Frankie's search. Beverly Stowe McClure has written several teen novels as well as an adult novel that delves into the realm of ghost stories. She lives in the country with her husband, Jack and they watch armadillos, skunks and other wild creatures. She is a member of the Society of Children's Book Authors and Illustrators. Alexander Morris graduated from the Illinois Institute of Art - Schaumburg. He always knew he wanted to be an artist and spent some time drawing monsters and other malformed creatures. He soon discovered the satisfaction of drawing cartoon characters when in college. He has illustrated several books for Guardian Angel Publishing.
