4.0 out of 5 stars This one worked fine!
I purchased this electronic dictionary a year and half ago for my mom to learn new English words. The one that I got worked fine! And it's still working fine. My mom loves it! And she learned a lot of new English words.

This review is from: Franklin B-1100 Speaking Chinese/English Bilingual Dictionary (Office Product)
I am a non native speaker of English and when I came to the United States I got a lot of help from a Franklin Speaking Dictionary so I bought the Chinese-English version hoping it will do the same. First I liked the price. Similar gadgets go for a higher price and sometimes do not even have an English manual. The interface was also great then you can switch between Chinese and English. The disappointment came when I tried to use the "say" function. It didn't work. Hopefully my case is an isolated one. I think that if it had worked I would have liked this product.

When i received this item, it's looked so nice. Very good functioning. It helps me a lot in English. This is a good choice in Chinese-English dictionary.

ISBN: 1-56712-594-8
which is expressed by amazon in the following format
ISBN: 1567125948
UPC: 0-84793-99213-1
country of origin: ?

battery requirement: two AAA
dimensions (in metric): 14.8 x 8.3 x 2.2 cm
weight: 8 oz. (ounces)
warranty from Franklin: 1 year
USA customers must call Franklin for an RMA (Return Merchandise
Authorization) number BEFORE sending it to NJ for "repair".
They suggest using "A TRACKABLE FORM OF DELIVERY".

Although amazon seems to carry only ONE Besta model (Korean),
I personally would hunt down the Besta Chinese thingamajig,
since what the Franklin costs is no small potatoes (for a device
that MIGHT be inferior to the one by Besta). Hope this helped.

1.0 out of 5 stars Oh My God!!!, June 13, 2002

I never bought this but come on! It just looks horrible - and Franklin?! I recommend buying from Besta - they specialize in Chinese translators.
The ones that have the touch screen pens are very useful.
