Best electronic Spa/Eng dictionary I've found, January 8, 2008
This review is from: Franklin Electronic Publishers LIB-1870 Speaking Larousse Spanish/English Dictionary with Berlitz Workbook (Office Product)
I previously had a BES-1850, and this device is far superior. First, this product (LIB-1870) is identical to the product numbered BES-1870 except that this one is packaged for Spanish speaking people who want to learn English, and it comes with a paper workbook for learning English as a second language from Spanish. The device itself is identical to the BES-1870 device. (Both Spanish and English user manuals are included.)
Second, unlike the BES-1850, this device has a superb LCD screen. It has no backlight because no backlight is needed. The screen actually looks like the screen does in the picture, even though the screen in the picture is really a peel-off label.
Third, the Larousse dictionary in this device is more comprehensive and complete than the Merriam Webster dictionary in the BES-1850. I wish this one had the full Unabridged Larousse, but the Concise Larousse still has plenty of slang and less polite language than does the Merriam Webster, which is basically just a tourist's dictionary. (I haven't found a more comprehensive Spa/Eng than this one in electronic form.)
Fourth, scrolling through the conjugation tenses on the BES-1850 is unbearably slow. This one is much faster, if still not as fast as I would like.
Fifth, this device is compatible with Bookman II cards, so the Ger/Eng expansion card I bought with my BES-1850 also works in this device.
In summary, this device basically addressed all my complaints about the BES-1850 without introducing anything new that is negative. If you don't mind spending a little more, you will be much happier with this device.

Electronics great but not the workbook, November 26, 2007
This review is from: Franklin Electronic Publishers LIB-1870 Speaking Larousse Spanish/English Dictionary with Berlitz Workbook (Office Product)
The electronic dictionary is excellent. Easy to use and comprehensive. The only reason for 4 stars is that the workbook is in Spanish not English so I had to order an English version.
