4.0 out of 5 stars Franklin TGA-470 works great
We used it in China and Japan on recent trips and while it does not speak it worked just great.

Most words and phrases we needed were in the thing and moderately easy to find. The key is to search for one word of a phrase.

3.0 out of 5 stars Language translator
Most hand held languge translators provide an insuffcient vocabulary.
This device is no exception. It is only a very slight step above the
less expensive TWE-100 by Franklin. It does offer seven additional languages and all have skimpy vocabularies.

So far is seems pretty good. Easy to use, many features and many languages. I bought it particularly because it had Japanese, Korean, and German, but it has many more. Like all of these things the vocab is small and that is annoying, but for basic use it does the trick.

ohh yeah, and it looks like a little book! (this gained it 1/2 star, otherwise it might have been a three for lack of vocabulary)

1.0 out of 5 stars This translator sucks, May 19, 2008
This review is from: Franklin TGA-470 12 Language Translator (Office Product)
I think this translator sucks, you can not enter a sentence to be translated .. only single words work best and then it gives you a few options of translations for that certain word . For 100 dollars i would have expected more, along with the word availability is very limited, which means many words are not in it.
i bought this so when i travel to China, it was little help

This unit works OK, very helpful at least when it is light enough to read it.
I wish it had phonetic pronounciation tips, this would be especially useful with Slavic languages.
I find this unit easier to use than the 450 model. It is not as easy to slip in a pocket, though.

1.0 out of 5 stars Wow...$100 ???, July 22, 2008

I bought this translator to help me out when I go to Japan and also when I study it. Yet, I was shocked to see that this translator is absolutely not worth its money. I was taking it to my Japanese tutor and when we had to look up a sentence (which we actually found WOW) it spelled tomodachi WRONG -.- so I am annoyed by a translator I pay $100 for and get taught wrong -.- it also has very little Vocabulary a lot of words I will need when I go to Japan are not even on here -.- how ridiculous is this If I could I would give it back in a heart-beat get my money back and buy one that is worth its money I am so annoyed by this. Really don't waste any time or money on this product it is not worth it....

I bought two electronic dictionaries from Franklin TGA-470. My daughters are studying in Germany, and I thought it will be very useful for their learning. They were really looking forward to receive them. But one since the begining did not work!!!
