Translator

The EST-5014 translates over 20,000 words to and from 14 languages. Plus, it teaches pronunciation by speaking over 130,000 words that were recorded by local speakers. Simply select your source language and then the target language. Once you begin typing, the predictive spelling feature will begin to fill in the rest of the word to prevent spelling errors and save time.

Travel phrases

We've included over 1,000 useful travel phrases broken into 13 categories so you can quickly find exactly what you are looking for. Each phrase is recorded in clear human speech by a local speaker so you can easily communicate while traveling, or perfect your pronunciation while learning another language. Categories include: Business, Conversing, Dining, Emergencies, Food Shopping, General, Health, Hotel, Pleasure, Time, Travel, and Weather.

English Dictionary

Along with the translation databases we've included a non-speaking Merriam-Webster English dictionary with over 75,000 definitions. Entries are found using predictive spelling as well as through Franklin's patented phonetic spell-correction. Entering "Jiraf" returns "Giraffe." Entering "Nolij" returns "Knowledge" or entering “Suttle” returns “Subtle.”

I am about to embark on my first trip outside the good ole' USA, heading to Paris & possibly Amsterdam. One of my concerns is communication & money exchange. After purchasing & returning within a day, another translator, I did my homework on this one & found it had much better features that will help me. I received it within about a week & a half & immediatlely found it to be something I will benefit from. One feature I was specifically looking for was a backlight. Without it, if you're in a dimly lit area, it will be no good to you. I've only had it for a day & found it to be pretty easy to use. Of course, there are many features I've yet to learn about, but I'll be happy with the basics.

The voices are very clear & not robotic. The main language you choose is a man's voice & the translated voice is a woman's. The screen is easy to read & there is an adjustment for the size of the text. The translator itself is about the size of a cell phone. It comes with a carrying case, ear phones, batteries & computer connector.

Although I still need to familiarize myself with the many features, I highly recommend this product.

This product is quite restricted in what it can do. I'm disappointed with it's performance and would encourage other prospective buyers to do more research and actually use the product before buying. I retrospect I should have spent more money to get a more versatile translator that can convert more expressions that are used not just holiday phrases. Also, the playback vocals aren't as clear as they should be.

I bought this one for three languages--Japanese, Spanish and Russian and didnt expect much but i was mistaken. on same screen you can install any of the 14 languages plus your target language and play with translation. it clearly pronounce words in both languages and has two buttons for purpose. it has menu where you can jump to different options. what i dont like is screen snd keyboard size, you actually need magnifying glass to see keyboard and screen contrast is not enough though it has adjustment. and in japanese you use romanaized alphabet not kanji. it doesnt have any slang as i hoped but it has multiple choices for words.
