1.0 out of 5 stars Confusing
This book is extremely confusing to find the answers. First I had to read the instructions and even after that I had trouble finding the answers. I would not recommened this book to anyone that just wants to sit down and peacefully read some trivia.

The Wizard of Was Mr. Joe Franklin hits one over the fence with his latest offering! This is an interesting, fun, challenging book that will put your knowledge of the world of entertainment to the test. Questions relating to the silent era of films right up to the present can be found in this easy to read book. In addition to the questions, Joe tells some wonderful stories about his experiences and about some of the thousands of guests he has interviewed throughout his 50+ year career.
Joe's Memory Lane radio show can still be heard on NY's WOR 710AM station midnight Saturday untill 5AM Sunday!

For an entertainment junkie like myself, this book rocks. Not only was I able to test my knowledge on things I did know, I also learned some fun facts about the entertainment industry that I wasn't aware of. This book is great for anyone who has a fascination with TV, movies, celebrities, etc. Great job, Joe!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great trivia from the great Joe Franklin!, December 13, 2007
This review is from: Joe Franklin's Great Entertainment Trivia Game: Putting Your Movie, TV, and Music Trivia Knowledge to the Test (Mass Market Paperback)
A few years ago, a friend of mine invited me to watch a Woody Allen movie from the `80s called BROADWAY DANNY ROSE. There came a scene in the film when my friend suddenly said, "Oh, wait, watch this guy. This is hilarious!" And suddenly, there's this cute little old-looking guy in a suit sitting on this kitschy-looking TV talk show interviewing one of the characters in the movie. When I said I didn't know who he was, my friend said "You don't know? C'mon, that's JOE FRANKLIN!!" A few weeks later, I'm watching a few minutes of GHOSTBUSTERS on cable and I suddenly notice this cute little old-looking TV host guy in a suit ask Dan Aykroyd's character if he has seen Elvis lately. I suddenly realize who it is: JOE FRANKLIN!. I mention Joe's name to my parents later that same week, and they were both like "Oh, yeah, Joe Franklin! We used to watch his show late at night!!" Wow, so it turns out a lot of people know Joe Franklin.

I was recently given this trivia book as a gift from a friend (the same friend who showed me BROADWAY DANNY ROSE). To be honest, I didn't expect much. So imagine my surprise when I found nearly a thousand excellent and interesting questions all about movies, music, TV, old-time radio, etc., etc. And there are also these great little essays throughout the book about how Joe worked with Marilyn Monroe for a time on her autobiography, how Joe had both Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton on his TV show, or the time that the fake heavy metal band Spinal Tap appeared on Joe's show . . . and Joe didn't know it was a joke! There's even an entire game devoted to the films of Sylvester Stallone, which seems like a joke at first until you start reading the questions and you realize just how many movies (good and bad) Stallone has made over the years.

It did take me a few minutes to follow the book's game format (it has questions on one page and the answers on the next page over, so you never see the answers as you read the questions). Once you get it, though, it's a cinch.

I wouldn't have known about this book unless somebody told me about it. So now I'm telling you about it. If you like pop culture and all the weird little factoids that go along with it, you need to have this book. Thank you, Mr. Franklin!

5.0 out of 5 stars NOT Confusing . . ., August 3, 2006
This review is from: Joe Franklin's Great Entertainment Trivia Game: Putting Your Movie, TV, and Music Trivia Knowledge to the Test (Mass Market Paperback)
The game format in this book is explained very clearly in a brief section called "HOW TO PLAY THE GAMES" in the front matter of the book. If you just sit for a few minutes, read these instructions, and take a good look at the diagram examples of the games' page-to-page "Q&A" format, you will see how easy and clever this trivia game really is. And you'll be amazed at how they got more than 900 questions (and the fact-packed answers) into a handy-dandy little book that can fit quite comfortably either in your pocketbook or even your jacket pocket. Don't be confused -- get hip to the format instead and be amused!

This book is really great. It's got everything from movies to TV to music, and everything else in between. Mr. Franklin earns his status as "Mr. Memory Lane" over more than 900 questions to challenge your pop-culture smarts. Great format and even greater information. Now I know where they shot the exteriors for Kubrick's THE SHINING. I recommend this book, along with the other titles from this Buzztime series like the Micky Dolenz rock 'n roll trivia book and the Dick Van Patten TV trivia book. They're all fun and total necessities for all the trivia buffs out there. Don't delay, get yourself this book today!!

If you're obsessed with old time radio, television, films, music and movie icons (pop culture in general), you should most definitely check out this book. There are over 900 questions here and every one of them is intriguing. Where else can you find a book that mentions Bing Crosby and Frank Zappa on the same page, or Veronica Lake and Spinal tap in the same paragraph? Mr. Memory Lane has out done himself here. If you're looking for a definitive trivia book on that magical thing called "showbiz" look no further than Joe's book.
Thanks for the memories Mr. Franklin.
