Franko's Dive Map of Kauai, the Garden Isle

This map is Ok, but you will not get detailed maps of many things (trails, for example, or many points of interest). If you're planning a trip to Kauai, all you need is The Ultimate Kauai Guidebook: Kauai Revealed (Ultimate Kauai Guidebook). This book, though not perfect, is packed with information and has very detailed maps. If you're going to spend six bucks just on this map you may as well spends few more and get the book instead. But again, it's an Ok map (but not even close to being waterproof). Hope this helps.

I'm taking this with me on my trip to Kauai. It is a very nice map and shows a lot of detail for snorkling, hiking, etc.

The map was great for finding all the fun stuff to do on the island. Since Kauai is an island it was great the way it broke down all the beaches, snorkelling, and dive sites. The map was accurate for the mountains and land information. The "Tyvek" material proved very durable even through rainy days. I thought it was expensive at first but after using it for the week it was well worth the money. I don't believe there is a better map available.

Gee, we used our Franko map of Kauai every day during our stay and thought it was lovely. It's printed on what feels like a smoother and thicker version of Tyvek (like those envelopes from Fed Ex that are practically indestructible), with the folds permanently in place. It's not laminated -- and I don't know how you'd laminate a folded map without turning it into a placemat -- but water (and soda and fruit juice, all of which we spilled on it) rolls right off.

It's not a road map, but that's what the freebie ones at the airport or AAA are about. This map did lead us to every good snorkel site on Kauai, without having to call any dive shops.

No map is all things to all people, but I will definitely look for a Franko map when I go to Maui this winter.

Excellent for snorkeling and diving locations, but sorely lacking on the surf spots.

These maps are great! We found our first in a Maui surf shop and carried it with us everywhere. It shows all of the great surf spots, dive sites and attractions. I was so excited to see the Kauai map on amazon! Don't go without it!

There has been some concern that this map might not be waterproof. I assure you that it IS waterproof. The "paper" it is printed on is actually a type of very thin plastic, which is why it doesn't fall apart in water, and it is very much rip resistant. The ink Franko uses is also waterproof, so there's no way it can get ruined in the ocean, on boat trips, in sweaty hands, etc.
As a side note, for those people who like the feel of a thick, laminated map, I've seen these laminated too. They are flat like a placemat. Obviously these are also waterproof.

The listing says "Printed on waterproof, tear-resistant, permanently folded paper." In reality it is printed on flimsy stock and is not laminated. The map itself is ok, but not exceptionally detailed. Certainly not worth the price.

I've found it hard to get detailed maps of Kauai, and before looking harder, I went to Amazon.com which I should have done in the first place. Some day my family and I will get to Kauai, but we want to do a lot of planning first. Kauai related literature makes the island sound like a great place for a vacation, but this map will help us a great deal in connecting island information to a map.
