This review is from: Frantz Fanon: Conflicts and Feminisms (Paperback)
This is a long overdue re-assessment of Fanon's political and philosophical contribution to struggles for freedom in the societies of the South, particularly in Africa from a constructive feminist perspective. Given the trend towards revisionism of liberation struggles within the US and European academy generally (whether through postmodernism or simply as an expression of conservatism) this book fills a necessary and critical gap in the development of discourses and conversations about legitimate colonial and post-colonial struggles and their political re-narration within societies that are re-defining themselves...a great contribution to courageous, radical scholarship...and a necessary text for anyone teaching Fanon and Africa in the contemporary moment....
Patricia McFadden, Distinguised Visiting Professor, Women's and Gender studies, Syracuse University, New York - currently teaching a course on 'Revolutionary Struggles in Africa' from a radical African feminist perspective |
