Slick and suave, makes my new DVD player even sexier!,

This review is from: Franz Ferdinand - Live (DVD)
Sure it's the same couple of shows, but I've watched this video over half a dozen times since I got it two weeks ago. I actually LOVE the packaging, the DVD's on top of each other doesn't bother me (lots of em are like that these days). Anyway, the sound is great, the shows are great, this is "white crunk" at its best! All hail the new Scottish gentry!!

DVD captures the excitement of this band; tons of material,

This DVD captures the excitement of a live performance of Franz Ferdinand. For the price, you get a ton of material. Disc one has live performances from around the globe, a documentary, and some interesting and fun "easter eggs". Disc two has two full live concerts. Well worth the price. The next best thing to having Alex, Nick, Bob and Paul play in your living room.

The extra 'Tour De Franz'(Behind the scenes)is great fun to watch...happy lovely, cheers for now!

Amazing Dolby Digital 5.1 Release,
This review is from: Franz Ferdinand - Live (DVD)
I imagine a lot of people already own the first Franz Ferdinand album if you are reading this DVD review. All I have to say is if you want 3+ hours of Alex and Nick this is the album for you, if you want Paul and Bob well this is also the album for you since their amazing talents come across so clearly in the 5.1 Dolby mixes.
The first Disc is a "Best of Live" compilation. Just amazing to see how many people in Scotland and the rest of the world are already devoted to the band. The second Disc is 2 roughly 50 minutes sets at Brixton and at some venue in San Francisco. I'm sure these are the most memorable concerts on the tour and they are so well edited you'd think they had a hundred cameras at their disposal! Plus bonus material!

I have now had the pleasure of watching this great band perform 2 times, and this dvd captures all the excitement and talent from those shows. This guys are not only brilliant musicians and song writers, but are also really good entertainers (specially Alex Kapranos and Nick McCarthy), they alternate instruments, have mean guitar beats and really electrify the audience. Kick ass band, kich ass songs, kick ass DVD.

Now I know what if feels to be touring with Franz Ferdinand!!,

This is actually one of the best live DVD's I have ever seen. Not just because it has 2 full live shows, but it also shows us what's Franz Ferdiand's life when they're not on stage...and the documentaries it has are just sensational and entertaining.
But it's not only the live concerts and the documentaries: the karaoke videos are very cool, you can select if you want Alex Kapranos' voice or not, and the lyrics appear on screen, so it's very funny; and if you have a microphone, it's ever better! Other thing are the bonus performances in Auckland and other cities: thery're very good, and they just remind me when I saw them as the opening act on a U2 show, and they were fantastic. And the DVD-Rom contents: there is this exclusive web site in which you find photos, the biography (not the same that appears on Franz Ferdinand's official web site) and also the tour dates and previous shows, plus the lyrics for some of the songs from the first album. Now, I give this DVD 5 stars because the live shows are very exciting, Alex Kapranos actually sings live and really good, and because I love their first album. I hope they do another DVD like this for "You Could Have It So Much Better", because when they did this DVD, the second album still hadn't been released.... It's excellent, and even if you're not a person crazy about FF, you'll love it too.

Awesome band live!!!!,

Purchased this dvd since I'm a big fan of the band and do not have the chance to see them in concert. It's a great dvd. They sound better live!!! My only complant is the way the two disk dvds are stacked on top of each other, which makes it easier to scratch. Otherwise, wonderful dvd for and fan of Franz Fredinand!

Great Songs But Video Quality Lacking,

This review is from: Franz Ferdinand - Live (DVD)
Let me start by saying that I am a big Franz Ferdinand fan and have essentially all their recording that I listen to constantly. And the music on these discs are great. But I am quite disappointed in the quality of the video. Sure it was released at the end of 2005, but that wasn't that long ago. Glad I bought it for the music, but the video quality could have been so much better.

Makin' dream real,
This review is from: Franz Ferdinand - Live (DVD)
Average looking average blocks produce energetic vibrant tunes on scenes round a globe while cameramen picked up professionally their body-language outlining artists' physical performance sexualising crowds attending.
A first time listener / watcher of a band is highly satisfied with a two disk DVD testifying to a "hard work" dream before-eyes-being-transforming into reality of ordinary folks securing their space in show-business spotlights, also a product has technically a broad room for development to better navigate between concert segments surely.

Franz Fries,

What beautiful packaging they've done for the over due Franz Ferdinand DVD release. A slip cover over a sleek case. Nice. But when you open it, the 2 discs are sitting on top of each other (face down of course) just begging to have their own slot (and they should). Still, the content of the discs more than make up for this shortcoming, almost.
Lets get one thing clear, shall we? Franz Ferdinand is an awesome band and seeing them play live is wonderfully exciting. With that said, the Franz Ferdinand DVD -which is overly filled with songs from their 2004 debut just when thier new album, "You Could Have It So Much Better", dropped in 2 months prior to this DVD release- stacks up to be merely good, not great. Here's why. While the songs are still as catchy and exciting as they were when they were originally released, there's really no need for 2 whole discs with the same songs on it. The second disc has two full length concerts (cool, yes) but it's just the same thing! Is it really that neccessary to watch at least 3 preformances (sometimes FOUR: Take Me Out & The Dark Of The Matinee) of the same songs? Grant it they are playing in different venues from America to Euope, but who really cares? I simply expected more from one of my favorite bands. Also, what is with the karaoke videos? It's all a bunch stock footage from the 60s(?)/70s(?). I was hoping for actual music videos with the option to have the lyrics scroll across the bottom of the screen. The real music videos would have been a better choice to go with; they're great! Still, even with all these flaws, the preformances themselves ARE good. The band is energetic and entertaining. Though I wish there would have been more of Mr. Funky Bob Hardy even though he pretty much just stands inert (but, oh!, how I love it). Another big boost this DVD has going for it is the 30min documentary, cleaverly titled "Tour De Franz". It also gives you the option for subtitles so you can read what their accents are saying (particularly Paul). It's very candid, and all the band members get sufficient camera time. Perhaps next time around they'll put out another DVD set actually deserving 2 discs, that way their debut songs can be on one and the "You Could Have It So Much Better" songs could be on the other. As for the extras, toss in another documentary, (perhaps called "Franz Fries" -just a thought) and a library of thier cool music videos. That would be heaven! Closing out, if your a fan, then definitely get it! If you're not sure, then you might want to wait awhile. I'm positive that their next effort won't dissapoint anyone. |
