I started my daughter out on a lower model from the Franz Hoffmann line and when it was time for her to move up a size, I decided to upgrade her model as well. We went with this Maestro model in the 3/4 size and I have to admit that I was very disappointed in the quality of sound. When paying more than twice that of the "lower" model I had expected a marked improvement. All we can get is a twangy, brassy sound. I tried upgrading the strings and went with the best strings money can buy (evah p's) and I don't think this violin could handle the tension because it sounded even less even and we got a vibration that wouldn't let up.

I'm hoping as the instrument "opens up" that the sound quality will improve. My suggestion is that for just a little more you can buy, from the same company, a Lamberti Sonata, which sounds out of this world for the price you pay.

If you can afford it, go with a Lamberti rather than a Hoffmann.

I had a full size violin before and I bought this one when I realized I need a smaller size. The sound is clear and loud. The case is very nice and sturdy. The bow is good too. I only wish it came with better strings which aren't as screechy as the ones that came with this.
