Another stunning performance by Leslie Howard,
By A Customer
This review is from: Franz Liszt: The Complete Music For Solo Piano, Volume 29 (Audio CD)
Leslie Howard performs Liszt's first and lesser known cycle of Hungarian Rhapsodies with incredible technical accuracy and artistic genius. Although this music is not as familiar as Liszt's famous second cycle of Hungarian Rhapsodies, I must applaud Howard for the way that he has rescued this equally beautiful cycle from centuries of dust and obscurity. This recording will make an excellent addition to any musical library.

More Enjoyable than Average Folk Mujsic Transcriptions,
By B. Marold "Bruce W. Marold" (Bethlehem, PA United States) - See all my reviews (TOP 100 REVIEWER) (HALL OF FAME REVIEWER) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Franz Liszt: The Complete Music For Solo Piano, Volume 29 (Audio CD)
This dual disk collection of Franz Liszt's 'Magyar Dalok & Magyar Rapszodiak' (Hungarian Folk Music) is half again more enjoyable than many of the other issues in Leslie Howard's 'Complete Piano Music of Liszt' series. And, it is more enjoyable by half than many other composers' renditions of Mitteleuropean folk tunes. I'm thinking especially of those from Bartok and Kolodny. Liszt does not loose ALL of the life from these rustic tunes, and demonstrates how almost all classical music arose from humble roots (at least those which did not originate from liturgical practice.
An enjoyable listen for the amateur musical gourmet.
