Unusual and Excellent, January 15, 2008
This review is from: Fratello Coffee Company French Saigon Dark, 18-Count Pods (Pack of 6) (Grocery)
This particular coffee has an unusual, rich taste -- another reviewer mentioned "chocolate notes" -- which is indeed one of the undernotes. It is not bitter, has a slightly sweet edge. In a way, it reminds me a little of good organic, unwashed mexican coffee. The roasting process tends to caramelize some of the sugar in the beans. It has a complex taste that is quite good.
These pods are sort of in the middle in terms of capacity, compared to Senseo pods or Baronet cofee's "MegaPods". They are the same diameter of Senseo pods, but are a bit fatter. One will barely fit in the the Senso's single pod holder. Depending on your preference, you can use just one pod for a full cup of coffee -- what comes out is akin to a decent american cup of coffee -- a little weak for those that like something like the standard "two pod" output of the Senseo pods. I suggest experimenting -- try a single pod in the two pod holder, try two pods, try a single pod in the single pod holder to see what you like. If you "pre-wet" the pod you may be more satisfied with the single pod for a full cup of coffee.
This coffee is of very high quality, and the individually packaged pods will keep fresh for quite a while -- so if you are hesitant to buy a large quantity of pods at one time -- relax -- if you like a dark roast that is smooth and drinkable -- you will not be disappointed. I look forward to trying their other varieties.

This review is from: Fratello Coffee Company French Saigon Dark, 18-Count Pods (Pack of 6) (Grocery)
I have tried many brands, including Senseo, Folgers, Maxwell House, Java One, Melitta, Juan Valdez, but nothing beats this dark roast coffee from Fratello Coffee.

Great Coffee Pod, but Not for Everyone, January 2, 2008
This review is from: Fratello Coffee Company French Saigon Dark, 18-Count Pods (Pack of 6) (Grocery)
These are definitely high quality pods. They have a dark chocolate flavor to them and they work very well in the Senseo brand pod machine. The packaging is high quality, including the engineering of the pod itself. I've occasionally had pods that 'ripped' open before or during the brewing process, these DO NOT.
The flavor profile is not over-roasted like Starbucks Swill and some of the other pods out there, but it is dark chocolate flavor although not bitter. If you like a dark brew, you'll like this because it is very close to an authentic espresso shot.
