Unusual and Excellent,

This review is from: Fratello Coffee Company French Saigon Dark, 18-Count Pods (Pack of 6) (Grocery)
This particular coffee has an unusual, rich taste -- another reviewer mentioned "chocolate notes" -- which is indeed one of the undernotes. It is not bitter, has a slightly sweet edge. In a way, it reminds me a little of good organic, unwashed mexican coffee. The roasting process tends to caramelize some of the sugar in the beans. It has a complex taste that is quite good. These pods are sort of in the middle in terms of capacity, compared to Senseo pods or Baronet cofee's "MegaPods". They are the same diameter of Senseo pods, but are a bit fatter. One will barely fit in the the Senso's single pod holder. Depending on your preference, you can use just one pod for a full cup of coffee -- what comes out is akin to a decent american cup of coffee -- a little weak for those that like something like the standard "two pod" output of the Senseo pods. I suggest experimenting -- try a single pod in the two pod holder, try two pods, try a single pod in the single pod holder to see what you like. If you "pre-wet" the pod you may be more satisfied with the single pod for a full cup of coffee. This coffee is of very high quality, and the individually packaged pods will keep fresh for quite a while -- so if you are hesitant to buy a large quantity of pods at one time -- relax -- if you like a dark roast that is smooth and drinkable -- you will not be disappointed. I look forward to trying their other varieties.

I have tried many brands, including Senseo, Folgers, Maxwell House, Java One, Melitta, Juan Valdez, but nothing beats this dark roast coffee from Fratello Coffee.

Great Coffee Pod, but Not for Everyone,
This review is from: Fratello Coffee Company French Saigon Dark, 18-Count Pods (Pack of 6) (Grocery)
These are definitely high quality pods. They have a dark chocolate flavor to them and they work very well in the Senseo brand pod machine. The packaging is high quality, including the engineering of the pod itself. I've occasionally had pods that 'ripped' open before or during the brewing process, these DO NOT.The flavor profile is not over-roasted like Starbucks Swill and some of the other pods out there, but it is dark chocolate flavor although not bitter. If you like a dark brew, you'll like this because it is very close to an authentic espresso shot.

Just received the coffee pods I ordered. came in a case of 6 pack 18-count pods. Great value of coffee.I have been trying many brands of coffee pods since I got my Senseo pod system as a gift. (I am still using my espresso machine sometimes.) Most of the brands including Senseo and Target's own brands, they are ok but kinda watery. Read the review of Fratello French Saigon Dark coffee pods here, and ordered one case to try. I just got it and tried one right away. It smelled very good when I teared off the individual pouch. The pod is actually a little bit thicker than Senseo's, and it felt like being pressed harder instead of loose powder. I use the other reviewer's suggestion to use the 2cup filter instead one, and it worked great. Great coffee for fast pod system. I strongly recommend it!

My husband is a happy man! Finally, after trying Timothy's and various other brands, we have found a really great-tasting strong pod for our Bunn My Cafe machine. I mean he really loves these pods!

Good Coffee, Something Different,

I was looking to experiment with alternatives to the Douwe Egbert Senseo pods and found these pods on Amazon. Not that there's anything wrong with Senseo dark roast, in fact its pretty good, but I do like to try new coffees. If there's any disadvantage to having a Senseo machine it is in the limited selection and the difficulty of finding off brand pods in stores. When I saw the offer on Fratello, I thought I would give them a try.As it turns out, their good and perhaps a bit darker than Senseo dark roast, close to expresso quality. Each pod is individually wrapped, which I like. The downside is that, being so dark, their not always desirable when you want something lighter. Another thing, which is common to all non-Senseo pods, is that the pod is a bit bigger than the Senseo pod. On the one hand thats good because there's more coffee in them, and on the other, you must ensure that the pod sits in the holder perfectly in order to close the top properly. All in all, the Fratello pods are a good buy and an enjoyable alternative to the more readily available Senseo pods.

Bitter and Over-roasted,
By
This review is from: Fratello Coffee Company French Saigon Dark, 18-Count Pods (Pack of 6) (Grocery)
This was probably the worst coffee I ever bought. It was so over-roasted that it tasted burned and bitter. I had hoped for full-bodied French dark roast. My husband and I have lived in Italy where we learned to love espresso, and from living in Louisiana, we also love the really dark roast coffee that is easy to find there. We used two of the pods (one for each of us)in our Bunn My Cafe machine and called Amazon for a refund. I take no pleasure from writing this review.
