Book Description

May 8, 2012
Frank Frazetta! He's been rightfully called "The Grand Master of Fantasy Art"! But, it's little known that Frazetta also conquered other worlds in the Golden Age of Comics, as shown in his Donald Duck-ish funny animal and hilarious hillbilly comic book stories. Even those aware of this wonderful Frazetta art don't know the extent - this book is a whopping 256, large-format pages! Did we mention ferocious, terrifying wolves and swampland creatures in the plethora of animal stories illustrations as only Frazetta could draw them? There's also lions and tigers and bears - oh my! - before Frazetta's famous paintings captured the same subjects. But wait, there's more! You'll see the roots of the Frazetta Girl in the sexy Kathy teenage girl adventures and the hot Daisy Mae-look-alike, Clarabelle, in the hillbilly hi-jinks stories of her beau, Looey Lazybones (Holy Li'l Abner!). The introduction is by famed cartoon director Ralph Bakshi, who closely worked with Frazetta when they co-produced the animated feature film, Fire and Ice. Bakshi shares rare insights, anecdotes, photos, and Frazetta drawings, and created a special painting of Frazetta and himself as funny animals for this beautiful hardcover, full-color coffee table book! Frazetta - Funny Stuff is edited and designed by Eisner award-winner Craig Yoe. As with the entire line of Yoe Books, the reproduction techniques employed strive to preserve the look and feel of expensive vintage comics. Painstakingly remastered, enjoy the closest possible recreation of reading these comics when first released.

5.0 out of 5 stars A MUST HAVE FOR FRAZETTA FANS June 4, 2012
Format:Hardcover
I have been a Frazetta fan and collector for over 50 years, having discovered his art in 1949 and maintained a twenty year friendship with him. This new Craig Yoe book is truly outstanding. The reproduction is quite good and the stories selected couldn't have been finer. I had trouble reading Ralph Bakshi's "stream of consciousness" introduction but it didn't lessen my enjoyment of the book. Craig Yoe's foreword was quite well written, although I did notice one small error: Yoe states that the SUPERMOUSE story in COO COO COMICS #41 was not the work of Frank Frazetta. This is not true since Frazetta told me on two different occasions that he did draw this story. The other stories that Yoe notes as not being by Frazetta were correct. I can't recommend this book high enough and it is well worth the money.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Master Shows Us His Funny Side December 4, 2012
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
If you've ever watched the Frazetta: Painting With Fire DVD, he talks about this stuff. Frazetta loved doing funny stuff, and his artwork is a treasure to behold in these classic stories. I can see why Disney kept on trying to get him - his comics were rivaling whatever Disney's artists were doing in comics form (Walt Kelly, Gottfriedson, and the great Carl Barks were probably looking over their shoulders at what Frank was doing all the time). These are great to read to your kids (buy two - one for the parent, the other for the child), and enjoy a more relaxed and entertaining Frazetta; plus all that beautiful artwork!

4.0 out of 5 stars Frank Frazetta ,artistic genius March 14, 2013
Format:Hardcover
I have to start off saying that I am prejudice. Frank Farzetta is just short of being a god to me. His talent and abilities are awe inspiring and I regret never having been able to shake his hand. His art whether it is serious illustration, comic book or comic strip has encouraged millions to pick up pen, pencil and/or brush to try their hands at creativity. Frank Frazetta is the 20th century DaVinci and this book will be a prize to anyone who admires his versatility!
