"Freak n:
a person or animal on exhibition as an example of a strange deviation from nature; a monster.
-Webster's Dictionary"

Thus begins Nick Bishop's biopic "from the files of the National Enquirer." Ok, I admit it: I cheat my diet now and then with a Krispy Kreme donut, & sometimes I read the ever erudite Enquirer - what else to do when...

Like millions of people I have admired Micahel's immense musical talent and creativity. I also find his personal life and eccentricities very interesting. It seems to me that Michael Jackson is multifaceted and not one-dimensional like many celebrities. So I thought I'd pick up this book and perhaps learn a little more about him?

"Freak!" is a very mean-spirited book written by the National Enquirer. I never try to judge a book by the cover, however in this instance I should have. The entire book is written with such venom and hate and malice. It seems as if the writer is taking great pleasure in spewing rumors, second-hand gossip and complete lies about Michael Jackson. Why is that?

The entire book is centered on a supposed 2002 book proposal that Michael Jackson conducted regarding a children's book. It starts and ends with this premise and reminds the reader that no publisher in his or her right mind would be interested in publishing a book by "Wacko Jacko."

"Freak!" basically discusses the child molestation allegations of 1993 in great detail. It is the opinion of this author/The National Enquirer that Michael Jackson is a "freak" whom's life changed dramatically when these allegations surfaced. And it goes on to state that Michael Jackson conducted an elaborate publicity scheme (marrying the King's daughter) only to clear his name within the jury of public opinion.

This book even has the audaciousness to imply that Michael Jackson didn't naturally father his children based on "reports." What reports?? And by the way, who are these "insiders" and "family friends" that the book mentions? Why aren't there any names?

As stated, there isn't any interviews or research conducted. The entire book is just regurgitated gossip that has been promulgated within the pages of the National Enquirer for years. They even have the nerve to reference La Toya Jackson's book and quotes she made about her brother more than 10 years ago to the effect that he was a molester. The author of this book didn't bother to mention that La Toya recanted her statements about Michael Jackson years ago.

The book also attacks Michael Jackson personally (his physical appearance and his mental state). The author wants the reader to believe that Michael Jackson is delusional and "clinically depressed." But there aren't any facts to back up these salacious claims.

If you're fascinated with the life of Michael Jackson and are searching for the truth then this book is not for you. Save your money and your time and stay away from this book.

This review is from: Freak!: Inside the Twisted World of Michael Jackson (Mass Market Paperback)
This book is so boring that I did not even get to the end of it. The arguements in the book are not convincing because they are not backed up by evidence. And the grammar is terrible! I thought a book had to be read by at least five people at a publishing company before it can be published!

1.0 out of 5 stars Should have know.., August 1, 2009
Seeing the source of this book I should have known what garbage it would have been. and was. I am a Michael Fan, but love to read the good, the bad and the ugly about him. the ugly I usually just laugh about knowing there is not much truth behind it.. LIKE THIS BOOK. Most of the books is quotes from others book. Latoyas book, Michaels book.. and whatever is not from that is from an "UNKNOWN SOURCE" which is really all they have to quote .. b.c i dont believe that source ever existed. this book is garbage, but does have some nice pics of MJ in it which i think they thought were bad pictures, but I enjoyed them!

Nothing redeeming, or even remotely entertaining about this "book". The title should be "Michael Jackson's World Twisted in the Mind of a Medialoid Freak".

1.0 out of 5 stars Laughable Attempt by the National Enquirer, January 23, 2011
For those of you who are not blinded by facts this is worth reading.

Yet for those of us who think facts are relevant, this book will prove itself to be a waste of time--time which we will never get back. We're in an economy which does not allow for the average Joe to spend his hard-earned cash on useless trifles such as this... (to call it a book would be an insult to the great masterpieces of the printed page.) If you absolutely must read something Michael Jackson-related, I advise you to pick up Aphrodite Jones' great book instead. At least you'll know that book came from a reputable source, since Jones is a recognized journalist whose sources are reliable. Her book is titled "The Michael Jackson Conspiracy." It's a better use of your money than this rag here.

Anyone who buys this book is an idiot who loves to part with money. In these trying times, we have no such luxury. Seriously, this is nothing more than an overly lengthy tabloid rag.

...Shame on you. Tree murderers!

1.0 out of 5 stars Is this how we treat human beings?, July 5, 2010
By
FelineFatale (Sacramento, CA USA) - See all my reviews
Honestly, I wouldn't "read" this book if someone paid me handsomely. It doesn't deserve a star--instead for something so vile, so insulting, you should offer a circle with a bold red line through it. Not! Do Not Go Here!

It hurts me deeply that people have treated another human being so heartlessly. There's something very wrong with a society that finds no harm, no disgust in printing egregious lies and hateful stories about any person but especially about Michael Jackson. After his death and seeing him perform in This Is It, something happened to compel me to search for and study the real person, the real, live man who happened to be the most talented entertainer who ever lived. What I have discovered is an extraordinarily caring, gentle, loving human being, a beloved father, brother, son, friend and idol to millions of people all over the world, from every race, gender, background and walk of life, and a genuine humanitarian who adored children.

Michael Jackson was FORCED to be "different". His fame catapulted him into a world that soon became a prison to him. He would never be able to do anything ordinary again. He was denied a childhood. He was simply a gentle, caring man that viewed the world with the innocence of a child--that's why he loved being around children and felt more comfortable with them than the conniving, devious adults who attached themselves to him like blood-sucking leeches, ultimately contributing to his shocking and untimely death.

I wish I'd live to see the day when pathetic excuses for news like the National Enquirer and other tabloid trash fold up and are replaced with honest, truthful journalism where authors care about what they write and how it is received by the reading public and are sensitive, too, to the obvious feelings of those who they are writing about.

What is wrong with us that we actually enjoy destroying another human being's peace?

Parents all over the nation are concerned about "bullying" of children in our schools yet we see no harm whatsoever in allowing "adults" to put out sensational stories for all the world to see, knowing they do nothing but destroy!

Michael Jackson was a human being just like you and me. How would any of you like it if suddenly you found your face on the cover of a cheap tabloid and inside stories written about your personal life that were nothing but fabrications and pure lies? It's done. You can't take it back. Even suing makes little sense. Imagine the hurt your family would feel, the embarrassment of your friends and those close to you?

I feel sorry for us as a nation if we continue to feed on these disgusting rag papers like vultures fighting for a piece of a rotting, dead animal.

Michael, you were far too good for this world. God sent you here as a messenger of goodwill and to spread the message of love and kindness through your incredible music and dance. Sadly, like Jesus Christ, we crucified you.

Sometimes I'm ashamed to be human. Amazon, I wish you'd stop offering this book. Free speech is one thing; systematically destroying another human being's character and life is a completely different matter.

Shame on anyone else who buys this "bound" glob of garbage! You want to know the real truth about Michael Jackson, read Redemption or Michael Jackson Conspiracy. The truth will set you free!

1.0 out of 5 stars GARBAGE!!!!, February 17, 2006
By
This review is from: Freak!: Inside the Twisted World of Michael Jackson (Mass Market Paperback)
I cant believe that as a fan I was curious and actually read this book. I have never in my life read anything this filthy. This is not a book, this is right out of the National Enquirer and is only full of complete and utter crap. I have never sworn so much while reading a book. Everything was maniputated and so many of the "facts" presented were wrong, completely false, pulled out of someones behind, I swear. It seemed unedited also, as the grammer was bad at times... I still cant believe that some people believe this absolute rubbish. This book, is a horrible insult to the greatest musician the world has ever known and ever will know. THIS IS GARBAGE!!!
DO NOT READ IT!!! THIS BOOK IS TABLOID CRAP!!!!
Just BURN IT!!!!
