Customer Reviews

The title track Freakshow seemed to be one of the worst songs on the album.
Micheal Hunt
"Freakshow" also saw the Bulletboys branch out and incorporate a more bluesy feel to the album, which I think serves these guys quite well.
Jonathan Weller
Love to listen to music that just makes your most inner person feel good and want to keep on rockin.

This band was just good clean rock and roll. The sound is early Van Halen all the way. It's a shame this release did not get the attention their debut received, because I think this one was better. Great guitar riffs, great grooves, good music to blast on a summer day. Check out 'Hang on St. Christopher', 'THC Groove', and 'Talk to your Daughter'.

I discovered this band just recently, it's a shame they got to record only four albums. If you like Van Halen, Bon Jovi, Ratt, Rock City Angels... You're gonna love these guys. Hang on St-Christopher talk to your daughter & do me raw are excellent tracks. A must listen to metal-hard rock fans. Their debut & Zaza are also great albums. I purchased them used (real cheap), hear what your missing !

By the time the Bulletboys released their sophomore record "Freakshow", in 1991, music tastes had started to change in a more alternative direction. Bulletboys were scheduled to release their follow-up album in 1990, however vocalist Marq Torien developed voice issues and had to push the recording of the record back several months. How does "Freakshow" measure up to their self-titled debut record? Well, I plan to let you know.

"Freakshow" in my own opinion, is Bulletboys strongest record of their career. The songs seem more well-written and Torien's voice doesn't seem to have suffered from the issue's he had earlier in the recording process. Ted Templeman is back at the helm for a second time, and while I wasn't impressed with his production on their debut album, his work shines through quite well on here. "Freakshow" also saw the Bulletboys branch out and incorporate a more bluesy feel to the album, which I think serves these guys quite well. Now to my favorite tracks from the album, "Talk To Your Daughter", "Good Girl", "Hang On St. Christopher"," Hell Yeah!", "Thrill That Kills" and "Freakshow" are the standout tracks.

This is a more well-rounded album than Bulletboys debut. It's actually quite enjoyable to listen to, and with the dirt cheap prices (I paid .01 for my copy), I don't see how you could go wrong.

the BulletBoys first record might have the hits (Smooth Up, Love of Money),
but Freakshow has the balls. Hell Ya, THC Groove, Hang on St. Christopher,
Goodgirl, Ripping Me are all killer tunes. this band definitely had a different
vibe than most of the late 80s bands of their genre, whatever you want to call
it. a very uncompromising, interesting record...

To rip on BulletBoys for being a typical `80's hair metal band is kind of missing the big picture. Yes, they had the preening, posing look of so many of those bands and they definitely had songs with lyrics that were cringe worthy in their views on the opposite sex, but these comparisons seem superficial and not well thought out. This band was not as formula as one might suspect. For starters they didn't do ballads, power or otherwise. Plus they had more of a live sound in the studio with little overdubs (guitar soloing over a bass track). Album number two appeared in early 1991 and unfortunately for this ultra punchy quartet, hair metal was dying a slow death in the marketplace. You certainly wouldn't know it by listening to `Freakshow' as the bravado screams out of the speakers. This was a band, that at least on this record, were playing as if they had the world by the short and curlies, not the second division band that their success level rated. Key tracks are opener "Hell Yeah", "Goodgirl", "THC Groove" and, ahem..."Do Me Raw". There are spirited covers of "Hang on St. Christopher" (a Tom Waits song?) and "Talk to Your Daughter" which are very cool as well though the former is more impressive due to its out of the metal box origins and delivery while latter is more of a typical, raunchy Van Halenesque blues bash a la "Ice Cream Man". BulletBoys were four guys who didn't take themselves too seriously, took some chances but unfortunately were doomed by the hair metal yoke that they wore proudly around their necks. One more LP during their first incarnation then off to the revival/club circuit which I believe they are still on today. Sure Marq Torien was a David Lee Roth clone but damn did he play the part to the hilt (and I'm sure he had a blast doing it)! Do you think it's funny anymore? Then lighten up, you just might enjoy it...

Received my BB's-Freakshow cd(05/11/13Sat) & am having a blast listening to"Huge,Talk to your Daughter,O Me O My" for some strange reason people keep comparing Marq Torien to David Lee Roth,WTF & Why?Both Men have talent! No,doubt bout that those into Rock-N-Roll know there's a Huge difference between Marq & DLR's prowlesses on stage.David Lee Roth,is VH Frontman who's parades onstage & can sing where Marq Torien,Ooooozes Sexuality in raw, down & dirty Rock-N-Roll form which is HOW it's suppose to be.WHO wants to be compared in their Career of singing?People who don't know much bout this music would think it's a compliment but not to trained ears who've actually listened to both bands!Enough, about what others wouldBe critics are comparing the BulletBoys have loads of fans.Go to YouTube, listen you'll hear the differences in Marqs singing ranges on "Say Ur Prayers" or that Sexiness on "Goodgirl" songs.BulletBoys changed-up their sound after this album but their self titled cd & Freakshow showcases their talent off perfectly. If your new to BulletBoys try those 2 cd's you won't be sorry ya did,end-D.M.
