Book Description

What happens when special-op team consisting of a werewolf, vampire, super-soldier, and computer geek—are sent to a island with prehistoric wildlife to rescue the prince of Saudi Arabia from a bunch of tank-driving pirates? The kind of chaos and mayhem that can only be described as—Freaking Wicked.

For Jack the werewolf it was simple. There were good guys and there were bad guys, and his CIA job let him kill the bad ones with sanctioned approval of America. An adrenaline junkie that liked to live on the edge of out of control, Jack lived for the—pull your face off and howl—kind of adventures that only the clandestine world of special-ops could deliver. Teamed with the irresistibly cute vampire—Megan, the only survivor of a canceled super-soldier program named Grod, a computer nerd called Big Dork, Jack figures that there is nothing his team of monsters called the Freak Show can't handle.

But when they are handed a mission to rescue the Prince of Saudi Arabia from a secret island ruled by Somalian pirates, the Freak Show runs into the sort of death-inducing complications that has the heckles on the back of Jack's neck raising in alarm. A smack-down with a mummy and a mysterious meeting with a team of commandos in Egypt, drives the blood-starved Megan into crazed feeding frenzy that only Jack can stop by surrendering to a long suppressed forbidden desire. Then a showdown with the pirates leaves the team stranded on island where the wildlife is prehistorically monstrous. And if that's not enough, Jack finds out somebody in their own government has cut off them off and ordered their elimination with extreme prejudice.

2.0 out of 5 stars Needs a serious spell/grammar check asap May 15, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I read the whole book, but it was very difficult for me as I kept stumbling over very obvious spelling and grammatical errors. Most would have been caught by Microsoft Word, though they'd probably need an actual human to proof the changes. Patience was patient, hear was spelled here, they instead of the. The list goes on and on throughout the entire book.

Overall, I couldn't focus on the story since I constantly had to re-read the last sentence to decide what it was supposed mean. If the grammar and spelling had been perfect, I probably would have given this 3 stars. The story seemed like a decent tale, though not really my style. It was an action story and I prefer less fighting.

2.0 out of 5 stars Lots of problems June 14, 2012

This book is definitely a first attempt by the author. It has a cookie cutter feel to it. It is as if he crammed a few other novels together to make this one. It is ok, but not much more.

There are many, many, MANY typos throughout the book. I found this to be very distracting. I had to reread several sentences to be sure I was getting the correct meaning. His transitions are jerky. He'll just jump from one point in the story to the next without any connecting thoughts by the characters. I'm not sure why the publisher didn't catch any of this. I'm not sure why the author didn't catch any of this. He uses the wrong word over and over. Incorrect punctuation. Poor sentence structure. ect. ect. ect.

Finally, the language is extremely foul just for the sake of being foul or offensive. There is no reason for any of the characters to curse as much as they do. I get the feeling that the author does not know how to express himself in any other way.

My best recommendation would be for the author to read more classic horror/thrillers. He could pick up a lot of good pointers.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Horror Review May 5, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
This is not a Horror Novel. This is a Tom Clancy Novel(Pared down to half of that usual overbloatedness) with a dash of evil sprinkled in.

The author has somehow managed to write an Action Adventure novel with monsters for characters. It's a fun read that doesn't take itsself too seriously, but it doesn't get too campy either. It rides a fine line between the two, that Brian doesn't deviate from too much. He deserves kudos for maintaining that consistency throughout, because the monsters could have just broken out and run amok on him.

He nails the characterizations of the monsters perfectly. They remember their humanity while giving into their natural monstrous instincts to reguard humans as their specialized prey. Each one is differently written so they come alive. At no time, did I feel like they blended together. That's particuarly hard when you keep switching charter perspectives--better know as head-hopping.

Megan in particular, really impressed me. She could easily have fallen to the shallow girlfriend status whose main purpose is to look good on the werewolve's arm. But to me, she was real and morally conflicted. A vampire you are not sure if will kill you or kiss you. But you want her just the way she is--wickedly delicious.

And I can't help but comment on what I considered the funniest scene of the book. The Super-soldier(frankenstein) monster gets part of his face shot off and Jack has to help him put it back on so it can regenerate back together. A priceless moment!

This book blew up my mind and has me hungering for more. I hope he writes a sequel because it does say number 1.

Now, I can get Megan's number? I feel like living dangerously.

2.0 out of 5 stars Bad enough to read
The action was good, but the romance was terrible. I don't know where the idea for romance between Jack and Megan came from, but I hope it doesn't last into the next book. Read more
