5.0 out of 5 stars When the cookie crumbles
This is one of the most entertaining comedies I have seen in a long time. I started smiling from the start up tune "Happy Together" by the Turtles and didn't stop until long after Simple Plan finished their version at the end.

Jamie Lee Curtis is absolutely brilliant as Tess Coleman, a harried psychiatrist with two children, about to remarry after the death...

5.0 out of 5 stars When the cookie crumbles, July 24, 2005
This review is from: Freaky Friday (DVD)
This is one of the most entertaining comedies I have seen in a long time. I started smiling from the start up tune "Happy Together" by the Turtles and didn't stop until long after Simple Plan finished their version at the end.

Jamie Lee Curtis is absolutely brilliant as Tess Coleman, a harried psychiatrist with two children, about to remarry after the death of her husband. Lindsay Lohan plays her daughter Anna, a rebellious teenager who can't see eye to eye with her mother.

Comparing the Lindsay Lohan of this movie with the wafer thin girl she has become, it should be noted that she looked so much prettier, happier and healthier then, that I wish she'd look back at this movie and go out and eat something.

You already know that this is a "switch" movie, and thanks to Lucille Soong as an interfering old woman, the switch is done with the crisp snap of a fortune cookie. Both Curtis and Lohan handle the change in their characters admirably, and soon both Tess and Anna get a first hand understanding of each other's rather complicated lives.

Mark Harmon has a supporting role as Tess' fiancé Ryan, and Chad Michael Murray plays Anna's love interest Jake, but this movie is all about the female leads as they get a new perspective, earn each other's respect and generally change each other, while at the same time delivering the laughs.

Tess and Anna switch
Fortune cookie lets them be
"Happy Together"

5.0 out of 5 stars Hard Rockin' Remake of Freaky Friday, July 18, 2003
My wife and I attended the sneak peak premiere for Freaky Friday with Jamie Lee Curtis, Lindsay Lohan and Mark Harmon.

Lohan and Curtis play off each other extremely well, especially when the "reverse" occurs. The movie works well in the fact that Lohan's character represents a normal, repressed teenage girl and the kids around her at school could be a snapshot from any era, just that they are definitely based in 2003. Her band Pink Slip sounds like a cross between The Donnas (who are on the movie soundtrack) and Kay Hanley (Letters To Cleo) in the Josie and the Pussycats movie.

Curtis' character could be just about any professional adult with PDA's, cell phones and pagers all going off at one time and forgetting the most important thing in her life, family.

It was great to see a film with teenagers rocking out instead of falling into the force fed urban trends of rap and basketball. I really hope Disney TV itself starts taking this approach and gets away from the rap for the kids during their video shows.

Freaky Friday is an excellent movie for the entire family kids through adults (no swearing) with a lot of funny sight gags and as well as physical humor. Outside of a brief shot of Jamie Lee in a thong, there is nothing in this movie that would be considered offensive, although the movie is rated PG.

5.0 out of 5 stars Return of the Switch Film, November 5, 2003

This film works because the actors are able to play eachother convincingly and to humourous ends. A fine film to watch with your kids (and there are not many like that lately). The best thing about this film is that is fosters an understanding of other people, while being very entertaining and funny.

4.0 out of 5 stars Help I'm Trapped in my Mom's Body, September 30, 2003
A Kid's Review
Title: Freaky Friday
Production: Walt Disney Studios, GUNN films
Date: 2003
Length: 95 minutes
Genre: comedy
Rating: PG (mild events and some language)
Awards: #1 comedy in America three weeks in a row.

When I went to go watch Freaky Friday I thought it was going to be another classic Disney movie, you know the happily ever after junk. It wasn't, it was different and it ended up being one of the best movies that I have ever seen. Here's a little summary of this outstanding movie.
Tess (Jamie Lee Curtis) and Anna (Lindsey Lohan) are a mother and daughter who don't get along. One day at a dinner rehearsal a magic fortune cookie turns their world upside down.
On one Freaky Friday the two switch bodies and are
trapped until they realize how difficult each other's life is.

Will they switch back before Tess's big wedding and Anna's first real concert?
The best apart about this movie is definitely the characters. Throughout the whole movie they are outrageously funny and really act like that is their normal life. You can definitely tell the characters fit their parts.
Next is the storyline. It was really unique and very different. The characters make the movie so believable. Even though none of us would ever switch bodies with our mother's.
Third is the plot. The plot is also very rare to find. It's not everyday that you watch a movie about a mother and daughter switching bodies. The whole movie is basically about the characters trying to overcome obstacles about being in someone else's body.
Last but certainly not least are the actors. I think they were born just for this movie. Jamie Lee Curtis is outstanding, and I have read several times that she is sure to receive many awards in 2004. Lindsey Lohan was also fit for her role but Jamie Lee Curtis stole the show.
Overall I would give this movie **** stars because the whole movie was great. Everything from the actors to the theme was good. The movie was very unique, and the characters are very believable.
I recommend this movie for anyone who likes or needs a good laugh. Like I have already said several times before, this movie is funny from beginning to end. Freaky Friday was also the #1 movie in America for three weeks in a row.
Freaky Friday is the best Disney movie I have ever seen, and is a wonderful remake of the 1976 version. If you don't believe me then go see this wonderful movie for yourself, and find out if mother and daughter are trapped in each other's bodies forever or will they switch back just in time!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars I saw the sneak preview, July 19, 2003

This is an awesome movie! Its perfect for young girls and their mothers. Freaky Friday is about a mom and a daughter who don't know what each others life is like and when they get into an arguement at a chinese restaurant they both read the same fortune in a fortune cookie and switch places. Then they begin to see just how the others life is. When I went to see this movie the theater was packed and I don't think anyone left disappointed. This movie had its funny moments and some sad moments but overall it was an excellent movie and I hope you all go see it on Aug. 6th when it opens worldwide!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars (4 1/2) WOW! ACTUALLY BETTER THAN THE TRAILERS, September 4, 2003
SURPRISE #1 ! The idea behind this movie actually manages to succeed due to excellent directing (Mark Waters), very good casting, an interesting script, and the musical element to the story. Jamie Lee Curtis is an amazing teenager.

SURPRISE#2 ! There were a lot of truly funny moments that weren't in the trailers (which concentrated on the slapstick and one liners), in fact this is one of the few comedies that I believe is actually better than the trailers. (The humor is at times physical, often situational, but never crude or overtly sexual in nature.)

WARNING ! Don't attend this film if you hate rock music. The music (and its loudness) are a key element of the story.

This was entertaining beyond my expectations. Tess Coleman (Jamie Lee Curtis) is an obsessive psychiatrist with a teenage daughter Anna (Lindsay Lohan) who not atypically are often at odds, especially concerning the daughter's musical ambitions. The relationship is stressed further by the fact that Anna has not come to terms with the fact that the widowed Tess is about to remarry. As you would expect, there is also a boy, Jake (Chad Michael Murray) of interest to Anna. Other members of the cast whose supporting roles are well played include Tess' fiance Ryan (Mark Harmon) and Anna's grandpa (Harold Gould). As the marriage date approaches and tensions escalate, suddenly rehearsal Friday becomes very freaky when Tess and Anna discover that they have switched bodies. As they try to cope with the bizarre situation and at the same time keep it secret lest they be considered crazy, the inevitable problems occur. Can Tess pass Anna's school test? Can Anna counsel Tess' patients?

What makes the movie effective and fun is that it has the right mix of comedy and seriousness. It doesn't try to come up with a serious explanation of how the switch occurs, it just stages it in a fun way and then moves on. Yet, instead of playing everything for laughs, it actually uses the basic element of the story to seriously address the issue of what would happen and how our viewpoints might change if we had to spend a day as someone else with whom we often disagree. Tess and Anna are both frantic to resume their lives, but can only do that by truly understanding the viewpoint of the person whose body they inhabit. Thus, they are changed forever by the experience. So this is a fun movie for everyone - family members, couples, friends, etc. Just remember, the music is loud!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best all-family movie in ages, September 23, 2003
By
I am a big fan of movies that kids of different ages AND their parents will love, because it means we can go to the theater together without complaint. Most kid-oriented movies, though, are simply not well-enough written or acted for the adults to be sufficiently entertained, and often either the kid or adult characters are only caricatures (the kids are only smartmouthed and the grown-ups are only clueless).

Freaky Friday avoids those hangups; it's a tightly written and expertly acted film that will have both you and your kids in stitches. Jamie Lee Curtis does a phenomenal job playing a single mom, as well as a kid who wakes up in her mom's body. Lindsey Lohan is her teenage acting equal, making it absolutely believable that she is a 45-year-old woman in the body of a teenager.

Everything is edited so clearly that even my 4-year-old got the basic premise of the film ("Mommy, now the mom is inside the girl"). We are definitely going to buy this one when it comes out on video; not only is it a truly fun film but the film's underlying message of family understanding and togetherness is one that's worth the price of admission. Go see it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Freaky Friday is freaky fun! Better than the original., May 30, 2006
This review is from: Freaky Friday (DVD)
I had a lot of fun watching Disney's remake of Freaky Friday. In some ways this updated version improves on the themes of the original 1970's version. Funny and smart, Disney's Freaky Friday makes a great date movie or a great family movie.
The story follows a family days before a widow's wedding to her new fiancé. Daughter and mother are at odds with each other over the upcoming nuptials A trip to the Chinese restaurant and a fortune cookie lead to daughter and mother switching bodies and experiencing each other's lives. It's only when they come to appreciate each other that things change back. I know I'm leaving a lot out; (I usually write detailed synopses in my reviews) but I really want people to watch this movie and experience it for themselves. Disney's Freaky Friday is JUST TOO GOOD TO SPOIL
This movie is a lot of fun; the jokes are hilarious and the music is great. My favorite scenes are the collision in the bedroom between Anna and her Mother. I also liked the talk show sequence and the scenes in the car with some McDonald's fries (I can relate.) Really funny stuff. The updated script is well written and the cinematography is solid.
Disney did a great job of casting their version of Freaky Friday. Each actor and actress is perfectly cast in their roles. Lindsay Lohan gives a strong performance as Anna. For a young actress she handles the dual role very well, making both a convincing teenager and middle aged woman trapped in a teenage body. Jamie Lee Curtis is hilarious in this movie. Her performance here is worth the purchase of the DVD alone; the way she transitions from middle aged woman to hot teenager trapped in a middle aged woman's body are incredible. Her scenes with Chad Michael Murray made the movie for me. I could actually feel the chemistry swirling between them. She needs to be in more movies; I love watching her perform. Chad Michael Murray is in top form here as Anna's love interest. They need to let him do more on One Tree Hill. Veteran actor Harold Gould gets some great lines in some key scenes. Mark Harmon (NCIS) is a surprise as the mom's love interest. Nice to see him playing something light and funny for once. Look for Christina Vidal as Anna's bandmate.
Both versions of Freaky Friday are Shawn James five star Essential Movies. After almost 30 years the story is on its way to becoming a modern classic. While you're buying this one pick up the original 1970's version and the great book both movies are based on.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic movie! Lindsay ROCKS! Fun for everyone!, March 18, 2005
This review is from: Freaky Friday (DVD)
I have quite a story with the very first time I had watched this movie. It was the first night of school in my senior year of high school. I said to myself, "Hmm...I would like to go see a movie tonite!" I looked at what was playing and nothing really caught my eye. So, I said to myself, "Oh, I guess I will just go see 'Freaky Friday'!" I had no clue whatsoever about what the movie was about. I didn't really have too high of expectations for this movie. I went in and took my seat. After the movie was over, I found myself saying "WOW! That was a good movie!" The music was great and well suited for the movie and the acting was superb. I decided to return to the movies again the next night.

The next night, I had an even greater reaction to this movie. From that moment on, I knew that this movie was going to become one of my all-time favorite movies. I returned to the movies one last time a week later to enjoy this film for the third time on my 18th birthday. I honestly can't think of any better way I would have liked to spend my 18th birthday rather than in that theater watching "Freaky Friday".

To all of you who don't own this movie and have seen it, (with a quote from one of Lindsay's songs in "Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen"), "What are you waiting for?" And, to everyone who hasn't seen this movie, "WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?" I give a 100% gurantee on this movie that you shall never be disappointed with this fantastic movie!
