Excellent and must read for the golf fan,
By A Customer
This review is from: Fred Couples: Golf's Reluctant Superstar (Hardcover)
Fred Couples is by far my favorite golfer so I've followed his career very closely since the late 80's. Kathleen gives the most accurate account of a golfers career that I've ever read and covers the tough subjects (i.e. his divorce from Deborah) extremely well. Through all of Couples up's and down's Kathlene gets you inside his head so you know what he was going through at each tournament. One account comes to mind. When Freddie holed the bunker shot in the 1991 Ryder Cup at Kiawah and Deborah comes running out of the crowd his reaction was priceless and really gave away that there were problems in the marriage. Kathlene covers this and many other accounts superbly. I recommend highly!!

Missed Birdie of a Book!,
By rodboomboom (Dearborn, Michigan United States) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (HALL OF FAME REVIEWER)

This book was similar to any par four played: average drive down the middle, with an average approach shot thirty feet from the pin. The birdie putt slid by two inches on the left. Putted in for par. An adamant Couples fan, I probably had higher expectations about a really good read about my favorite player. Learned alot about him, but style left me weary. Shot after shot description of each tournament left me tired. Not bad though overall. Anything on Freddie is appreciated!

Watching Fred over the years has brought me alot of respect for the game. This book brings me more respect for him as a person. We all wonder what it takes to be a superstar, this book details that very thing. I am proud to see a writer who can step inside and describe a person like kathlene bissle did. Fred touches so many people in our precious game of golf. We Fred thank you and your author for allowing us to step inside of your life an explore.

Fred Couples Bio,

This review is from: Fred Couples (Paperback)
Fred Couples is a fantastic golfer and an interesting person. This book doesn't even come close to telling the life story of this facinating individual. Way toooooo much play-by-play of tooooooo many mediocre golf tournaments.

The book was ok. If you're a Couples fan you probably know most of what you're going to read already. In some regards the author made Deborah out to be a little more "cartoonish' than she probably was. Would've like a little more depth rather than just remembrances of golf tournaments past.

I thought this was an awful book. The author cobbled together press clippings and an infatuation. I bet Fred Couples was sorry he ever talked to her.

I'm not a golfer, but I was interested in Fred's life story, and that part was interesting, but the pages and pages of each shot of a tournament was boring to a non-golfer. I got what I wanted, the human side.

I have always been a big fan of Freddy, this book explained his issues in a more concise way than I had previously thought they occurred. I highly recommend this book, whether your a fan of Fred or not, it provides an insight into the rigors of a golf professional.

When my cousin and I were at the NEC World Series of Golf last year we learned that this book was coming out. Ever since then I have been in eager anticipation. It is definately a good one to read. I would recommend it to anyone. And by the way, if you are interested... on the last page of the pictures section, on the top of the page is a picture of my cousin and I at the NEC.

My family and I traveled to Pinehurst for this year's U.S. Open and were thrilled to find Kathlene Bissell signing copies of "Fred Couples: Golf's Reluctant Superstar." The book gives a Fred Couples fan or fan of golf a witty, honest, and accurate view into the day to day life of one of golf's best.
