5.0 out of 5 stars Cakewich rocks!, April 29, 2010

This review is from: Fred & Friends Cakewich Cake Mold (Kitchen)
I seen this pan featured in a magazine and I _had_ to get it. It appealed to the cake maker in me and I thought it would be really cool. I was concerned about how the pan would release as I have used silicone pans in the past that were a major pain to get off the cake.

I didn't need to worry. Fred and Friends always makes quality products and this one is no exception. The white pound cake recipe given to create the peanut butter and jelly cake is great. The peanut butter filling is terrific. I used damson plum jelly because I wanted some tartness to go with the sweetness of the cake and peanut butter.

The pan released the cake like a dream. No trying to peel the silicon off the cake while tearing up the cake. No trying to shake it loose or gently prying the cake from the pan.

I frosted this cake with the peanut butter frosting and took it to work. Ar first, people did think it was a giant peanut butter and jelly sandwich and were curious as to why I brought it in. Once they realized it was cake, it was gone in a flash. And you don't have to make it peanut butter and jelly - there are some tips on the box about making a different flavor cake with this pan.

I recommend this pan highly to anyone who wants to make a different kind of cake for a birthday or some other occasion. You will really enjoy using this pan and the people who are lucky enough to get this cake will love it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Too cute!, May 21, 2010

I made this cake for a party, and it was a huge hit! Per the instructions provided, I made the pound cake with peanut butter frosting and strawberry jam, and it was darling, easy to prepare, and tasty. Do note that the pan is small, (7"x6") and yields approximately 10-12 slices; however, the oohs and ahhs you'll receive make it well worth the price.

I just recieved this pan as my daughter saw it and wants a couple cakewiches for her birthday this year. I figured I had better try making the recipes before I do it for her birthday. As others have said this pan is not large but the novelty of it makes it worth while. I followed the cake and frosting recipes on the pan and it turned out very good. Though I think a tad less cooling time in the pan would help as the corners on mine cracked while unmolding it. It does make a cake that looks just like bread as pictured here. The cake recipe is a pound cake so you don't need large slices as the cake is rather dense. I used strawberry preserves rather than plain jelly.

The pan is made of high quality silicone and has rather thick walls so it quite sturdy as silicone goes. I'm quite glad to have added this pan to my collection.

Modifying my cake recipe as directed, this pan worked perfectly. The cake came out just great, and the finished product looked just like a large pbj sandwich.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing and fun!, May 22, 2011

I could hardly wait for this cake mold to arrive, and I used it the very first day. It was so great! I made a pound cake, which I then sliced into two layers, and filled with peanut butter frosting and grape jelly. It may not look huge, but it was about 24 servings! Here are some tips: go with a lighter cake (I made my pound cake whole wheat, and it was very dense and heavy), expect it to take much longer than the recipe calls for, and slice a very thin layer off the top for more realistic looking 'bread.' Fred and Friends impress, as always!

The cake really DOES look like a sandwich! Make the recipe to the letter and you should have no problems (make sure to grease and flour the entire inside though or it won't come out of the pan intact). I tried to alter it w/whole wheat organic flour and I had to try a few times before it was passable. A more experienced baker than I would have no trouble, I'm sure. FUN!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fred and Friends Cakewich Cake Mold, February 2, 2012

The Fred and Friends Cakewich Cake Mold is well made and worked perfectly. It is roughly the size of an 8 inch round with slightly thinner layers. The cake really does look like a peanut butter and jelly sandwich when done. I'll be trying to duplicate other types of sandwiches next.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally- Something That Actually Turns Out Looking Like The Picture!, May 29, 2011

This review is from: Fred & Friends Cakewich Cake Mold (Kitchen)
I had this cakewich Cake Mold on my wishlist for quite some time before I finally decided to give it a try. There have been many times where I have bought things that were advertised as being easy for even a novice, but in reality, are meant for those with a higher skill level and the final product never looked nearly as nice as the advertisement or the photo on the front of the packaging. I had also not baked with silicone bakeware before either. To my pleasant surprise, this cake mold was worth ever penny and the cakewich was extremely easy to do!

The back of the box has recipes for the cake as well as the Peanut Butter and Jelly frosting. I used a Duncan Hines Moist Deluxe French Vanilla Cake Mix, 18.25-Ounce Boxes (Pack of 6) and because I'm not a fan of peanut butter flavored frosting, I used plain vanilla frosting and added food coloring until I got the right shade to make it look like peanut butter (to do this I first mixed blue, yellow, and red, stirred that up, then alternated between adding more red and yellow) For the strawberry jelly, I used Wilton Red Sparkle Gel

I rated this 5 stars. It was easy to use, the cake came out of the mold easily, and the cleanup was easy as well. And making the cake look like the photo, was very easy for a novice like myself as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great gift, March 24, 2011

I purchased this for my cousin for xmas. He is a big pound cake fan and he loves eating peanut butter and jelly sandwiches too. The mold is not as big as you would think. It would have been great if it was bigger. Depending on how thick you cut your slices you can probably get about 4 to 6 slices out of each bake. You can probably get more if you cut it real thin.
