3.0 out of 5 stars Cute. But not very useful March 11, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase
I bought one of these mitts for myself. I knew it was cute to look at, but I wasn't sure it would be very functional.

I was right.

The mitt itself is pretty small (think sock puppet). But more importantly, the mitt is really thin. So it doesn't do a very good job insulating your hand. I certainly wouldn't use it to hold only cast-iron skillets while cooking, and even removing cookie sheets from the oven was nearly painful.

If I had to lift a heavy casserole dish out of the oven, I'm sure I would burn myself.

Bottom line: Much cuter than functional. I'd pass next time.

3.0 out of 5 stars it's more for stove top kind of heat August 13, 2010

I bought this because it's so cute... and I kinda suspect it won't be thick enough and it's true. It is really thin, around 2-3mm and has some thicker bumps on it which is useless because the bumps are far apart from one another. It is very comfortable to hold stove top pot cover and handle but you cannot leave it on the pot handle (the C shape type handle). I did that and ouch! The mitten itself is hot. I wouldn't recommend to touch anything in the oven.

I still like to look at it on my counter. It puts a smile on my face every time I look at it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A lovable "Oven Mutt" November 9, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase
I got this because I needed an oven mitt and I thought it was funny.
It doesn't cover your whole hand and works mostly like a sock puppet but I like that because I usually have a hard time getting my hand in oven mitts anyway. This is great for something to put on quick and get a pan out of the oven.
As far as being kind of thin, it is guilty as charged. But I really only use it to move a pan from the oven to the top of the stove. I don't use it to hold onto pans the entire time I'm cooking or in the blacksmith shop.
It also works great for messing with your pet cat/dog/monkey/goldfish if you are so inclined.

4.0 out of 5 stars Totally works June 16, 2013

Not to be used for large hands and should not hold pots for long periods of time. I've bought this for my friend as a gift as well.

3.0 out of 5 stars cute, but don't offer much protection August 18, 2012

These are so cute I just had to get them for my daughter! However the silicone is thin and the heat from pans goes through quite easily. Works fine for taking baked potatoes out of the oven or moving a turkey to a platter though.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works well July 7, 2012

The hot pad mitt thing works great, but do not attempt to hold a hot plate in your hand for very long... For it will burn through. I work at an El Chico which uses mostly scolding hot plates... So I hope that helps someone. Also, the silicone is a bit slippery.

I got mine off ebay but they are the exact same. Like other reviewers I found they are too thin to safely use for hot items from the oven. Read more
