I had bought the same brand's Gin And Titonic (Great, btw), and came on here to buy some for a gift for someone who fell in love with my set when I saw this.

This year I made Easter Island chocolates in these molds.

VERRRY cool item and versatile too! Highly recommended! I melted some chocolate chips in the microwave so they were "just" melted and not "too" hot, then filled the mold, let it set to cool solid in the 'frig and voila'....cool "Easter Chocolates" (get it?). Looked cool and tasted even better. I plan on making Moai mini soaps next. I figure as long as the liquid is not too hot, it should be okay to fill, since it's silicone.

Quite cool I think. Perfect for those cold rum concoctions of summertime. Sure, it's pretty expensive as an ice cube tray, but it's got a high novelty factor. Pair it with a good Easter Island drink and you have a new tradition in your home.

My recommended drink for these ice cubes:

"Pisco on the brainstem"

5oz Pisco (duty free shops in South America have the cool Moai bottles for much less than any US liquor stores)
3oz Fresh lime juice
2tsp Cane Sugar (Maui sugar is best)
1oz Limoncello (or Orangecello)
2oz Lemon sour mixer

Pour over Maoi ice cubes. Top with 151 rum.

There's something about those Easter Island statues that I've always liked, so I love having little ice cubes shaped like them.

The ice tray itself is great, it's like a silicon rubber that can be easily bent to remove the cubes you want at the time without any trouble whatsoever. Because of this they also retain their full shape, unlike plastic trays you have to twist and sometimes the ice breaks off, leaving some left in the tray. With the silicon, this never happens.

they freeze quick

i see some guy here whined that the tray changed the taste of the ice? i assume he didn't read the instructions and tried to eat the ice tray.

some others parsed that it's impossible to remove the cubes. i suspect they work for the old-school ice tray lobby. nothing could be easier.

it is a little tricky to fill the tray and then carry it to the freezer without spilling. i put the tray in a rectangular pyrex pan and then put the whole thing in the freezer.

deducting a star as i see they have recently jacked the price from $6 to $10. c'mon man?

adding the 5th star again as Fred apparently read my review and came to his senses and lowered the price back down.

Unlike many of the other FRED Ice Tray products that claim to be Dishwasher Safe only to clearly see "Hand Wash Only" on the box, this product is Dishwasher Safe (see uploaded photo). The product is fun, and is easy to clean. As with all of the FRED Ice Tray products I have purchased, you'll likely need some cardboard backing to help you get this into your freezer more easily (the silicone mold is not rigid).

The Fred & Friends ice cube tray makes for a novel addition. Cubes turn out great, but the frame is weak and it is difficult to get into the freezer (especially if yours is overflowing like ours). Other than that, it has been durable and a good product.

FRED is a fabulous little brand with witty items that are both fun and usable. This ice cube tray plays a great homage to the infamous statues on the Easter Island, a Polynesian island in the southeastern Pacific Ocean; to me they are the exotic version of the Stonehenge. I love how the ice looks once it’s completely frozen, the detail is wonderful and the mold itself is made out of same super flexible silicone, this is the easiest ice cube tray that I have ever used when it comes to removing the ice itself, it just pops right out, I love using it for anything that requires ice whether its for cooling drinks in a bucket or cooking, I have a few and always use them for the convenience and great slim shape.

I also have the skull and bone ice cube tray from FRED and that mold is much harder to use; much stiffer, I have to run it under water first to get anything out, so this one is extremely user friendly and it looks great floating in the some nice frothy iced coffee, the faces always make me chuckle in a good way.

To add, these don’t have to be ice cube molds exclusively, I can make chocolates, ice cream and even soap in them :)

I don't use them for ice. I use them for chocolate. :-)

They are great chocolate molds. Just melt, pour, and cool. The flexible silicone lets the chocolate pop out without breaking.

For more fun, drizzle in a little white chocolate before pouring in the dark chocolate. This gives them a marbled look. Solid chocolate can be too thick and hard to bite into, so I usually mix in rice crispies. Since the face is downward, the liquid chocolate sinks below the rice crispies and gives them a smooth face.
