4.0 out of 5 stars A great beginning
If you're looking for the album that wraps up the Freddy Jones band in one nutshell, this is it.

A great mix of both studio and live cuts that give you a great feel for their sound.

3.0 out of 5 stars This is enjoyable, roots based but groove oriented "jam band" music
Whate makes the Freddy Jones Band good also creates certain sonic limitations.

You have a laid back, throaty vocals (perhaps a couple notches below Widespread Panic), a reverb heavy, digitally delayed use of atmospheric guitar while a second guitar creates a strong presence of dramatic slide. The drums and bass are linked tight and foster a strong bottom...

If you're looking for the album that wraps up the Freddy Jones band in one nutshell, this is it.

A great mix of both studio and live cuts that give you a great feel for their sound.

If there is one drawback, it would be that you really have to be in the mood to listen to this album. A few of the tracks can drag on a little, and Wayne Healy's guitar can get to ear-piercing pitches at times. A little too much edge, that the band learned to lose in their future releases.

If you're a fan of the Allman Brothers, and are looking to diversify your tastes just a little, give this one a shot.

5.0 out of 5 stars One Word- AWESOME!, November 28, 1999

That is just it. This Cd is awesome. No other one word in the English language can describe this music so well. If you love Widespread Panic then you will go crazy over the Freddy Jones Band. Their music is true. The tunes like Stepping Stone and In A Daydream will become instant favorites. They are relaxing, invigorating, or just plain awesome.

5.0 out of 5 stars Trust me!, February 16, 1999

If you have an ounce of straight-up rock-and-roll musical taste in your blood or bones, you will LOVE this CD. It is the best Freddy disc and ranks in my top 5 CDs of all times. Others I rank high are Phish, Sting, Keb' Mo' and Kenny Wayne Sheppard. Buy it. Trust me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Never leaves the CD Player, April 24, 1998

The Freddy Jones Band is one of the Best Bands ever. Their music is soothing and intoxicating. I have had this CD play non stop for months in the CD player. Based in Chicago, the band beautifully blends rock with a hint of country. Smash hits like In a Day Dream, The Puppet, Texas Skies has provided an amazing base for this group. I suggest investigating other Freddy Jones CDs such as Waiting for the Night, Lucid, and North Avenue Wake Up Call. If you get a chance to see this band live DO IT!! The still play clubs and small venues and it will be one of the best concerts you ever go to

Ahhh I remember seeing these guys like 15 years ago when Dave Matthews opened up for them. Back when Under the Table and Dreaming had just come out along with this album. That still goes down as one of my favorite concerts ever. Two groups that can just get the crowd going. The Vogue in Indianapolis never sounded so good.

It's a shame that both groups didn't take off the same, but such is life. If you want a great cd to go on a road trip or pop in and just jam to, this and Mile High Live are they? Great great great.

3.0 out of 5 stars This is enjoyable, roots based but groove oriented "jam band" music, February 15, 2011
This review is from: Freddy Jones Band (Audio CD)
Whate makes the Freddy Jones Band good also creates certain sonic limitations.

You have a laid back, throaty vocals (perhaps a couple notches below Widespread Panic), a reverb heavy, digitally delayed use of atmospheric guitar while a second guitar creates a strong presence of dramatic slide. The drums and bass are linked tight and foster a strong bottom end for almost every song.

Any fan of jam band will appreciate this stuff since it has a definite "festival" sound. I can picture myself drinking beer, throwing a frisbee and singing along to the chorus.

The only problem is that there is a certain sameness with the texture and sonic range for all the sounds and so they start to sound a little alike.

"In a Daydream" is a great, uplifting song and the best on the album ...hence why it is included in an electric and acoustic version.

This is a quality band yet with a limited sound. Any comparisons to the Allman Brothers are crazy since that is one of the finest bands ever.

Early - mid 90s album is a rootsy blues classic.

A collector should have every FREDDIE JONES BAND record.

Consistently great American Blues-rock. 5 Stars!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Band To See Live!!!!!, March 1, 2004
This review is from: The Freddy Jones Band (Audio CD)
I've seen the Freddy Jones Band play live in Chicago and Milwaukee several times and have always had such a great time! This CD reminds me a lot of hearing them play. If you're a fan of FJB this one's for you! The version of "In A Daydream" on this CD is my favorite version ever.
