When you need to remember to live life.,
By Yazupstairs "YAZ" (Phoenix) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Waiting for the Night (Audio CD)
When you need to remember to live life, you listen to this album. There aren't many albums that are in constant rotation at my house, but this is one.
Let me take you back in time. It's 1994 and I am moving from my home to a big new city to pursue a dream. An awesome friend of mine, makes me a tape of various songs. It included three from the FJB, her favorite band, she was a groupie. From the beginning the music was uplifting, full of great lyrics and incredible. From Take the Time, to One World and then of course In a Daydream. I was in tears. I was starting new. Powerful stuff. Take the Time starts off asking, Where the hell are you running to? Try and find yourself a life. Look at yourself you're just standing still. And later, Tired of people talking about what they're gonna do or what they said or should have done. It commands you to take the time to look in front of you. It's full of great harmonies, haunting vocals and goosebump producing guitars. Seriously. In A Daydream starts off with a great, catchy, loopy guitar riff. It's a song that will propel you forward in one of those days you just dream about. Warm, sunny day in the middle of nowhere. "The sky is calling, calling out my name." "I'm already in a daydream." The music, especially the guitar and bass towards the end, is meant to achieve the musical equivalent of a fantasy. It captures it. The bottom line is that music, for me, is meant to take me away to another place or time. This album is timeless, deserved A LOT more recognition that it got and this band was just incredible live. In fact, much better live. Thanks to my friend 11 yrs ago for introducing me to TFJB. I am in Chicago now, too bad they aren't together anymore. But their music lives on forever.

A lover of "BLUES",

I picked up the cassette of this at a tag sale! It is one of the BEST ever! I have been searching for more from FJB for months. Just found them (Oct 2002). It is amazing that they broke up. This is a MUST HAVE in your collection. I play it at least once a week. IN A DAYDREAM is wonderful. So is Dixie. They are all good. If you need a lift, this is the one to play. I cannot wait to get all the rest of their music.A fan from Connecticut

Freddy Jones Band: The best rock you can find,
By
This review is from: Waiting for the Night (Audio CD)
The Freddy Jones Band is one of the most moving listening experiences you can find in music today. A surprisingly still-unknown band that has been around for quite some time explodes with Waiting for the Night, one of their culminations of greatness. Any of their large grassroots fan following will tell you that this band has quite an impact on all who spend the time to listen to their harmony. If you like Dave Matthews, Jackopierce, Vertical Horizon, and other southern rock bands; look at The Freddy Jones Band and Pat McGee to expand your appreciation.

Country-tinged Rock, I was drawn in by "In a Daydream", but didn't find anything else here for me. Competent at all of it - song-writing, lyrics, playing, singing - they just didn't connect with me, that's all, other than "In a Daydream", which is about as good as a song could ever be.

This is a great CD. In a Day Dream and Dixie Dynamite are my favorites. I had the opportunity to hear the Freddy Jones Band many times at DePauw University. Its always fun to hear them play. Its a shame the whole band is no longer together.

One of the best CD's I own. This debut offering really delivers, most every song is powerful and very well written both lyriclly and musically. The bands tight guitar playing is a real treat, especially "In A Daydream". Other notable songs are "The Puppet", "Colors of the Light", "One World" & "When you Fall". Unbelievable as it seems, this band is better live, if you get the chance to see them you won't be dissapointed! I've been a FJB fan from the beginning when they played small clubs in Chicago and hope they'll be around for a long time to come.

One of their Best,

Freddy Jones Debut album set the base for one of the best bands of the 1990's. The Freddy Jones Band is one of the Best Bands ever. Their music is soothing and intoxicating. Based in Chicago, the band beautifully blends rock with a hint of country. Smash hits like In a Day Dream, The Puppet, One World, Dixie Dynamite has provided an amazing base for this group. I suggest investigating other Freddy Jones CDs such as The Freddy Jones Band, Lucid, and North Avenue Wake Up Call. If you get a chance to see this band live DO IT!! The still play clubs and small venues and it will be one of the best concerts you ever go to!!!!

Make me think music,
By
This review is from: Waiting for the Night (Audio CD)
This band has been in heavy rotation in my house since I first heard Daydream in 1994. This is classic make me think music, listen to Take the Time and then tell me you haven't thought about your lifes path afterwards. Every major change in my life has seen this album go into almost constant play mode. I'm not sure how they stayed so low profile but this is a band well worth the time discovering.

Nice album!,
This review is from: Waiting for the Night (Audio CD)
This was actually a pleasant surprise for me. I was not familiar with the band, but heard In a Daydream on the radio and liked it. Though I very rarely buy a CD based on one song, I'm glad I did in this case. The entire album is an excellent blend of R&B with great guitar work, and "poppy" enough to please the whole family (6 to 50!)
Virtually all of the songs are good (or at least "listenable")and the album has a nice summertime flow to it. I would definitely recommend it. |
