Cowpig OK; Goatcat better,
By Sand Flea Press (Los Angeles, CA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Freddy Rides Again (Hardcover)
"Freddy the Cowboy" is one of the best titles in the series, with a reasonably tight plot and the thoroughly delightful origin story of the Horrible Ten, so it is not surprising that it was followed up immediately by this sequel.Unfortunately, "Freddy Rides Again" is weaker than "Freddy the Cowboy" (or "Destry Rides Again"). Elihu Margarine is snobbish and arrogant, but not quite villainous enough; the animals' campaign against him veers on the obnoxious. The most memorable image is Jinx, in his little cowboy outfit, riding his faithful steed, Bill the Goat; if only the story made more use of him! One more note: When Freddy is talking Western Badman Speak, the word "greaser" pops up, apparently in its racial sense; in questionable taste in the fifties, and you may want to smooth over it today! Yoicks!

Freddy is back in the his saddle on his horse, Cy. Some rich folks have moved in next door tothe Beans and they are creating a huge ruckus. It's Freddy's job to get them in their place. This is an extremely creative series.

I originally read this book as a child. I ordered it to bring back memories. It is a classic and I was surprised to find it still available.
