4.0 out of 5 stars A sick soundtrack to a sick movie!
Movies like Freddy and Jason are expected to have soundtracks like this one. There's no rap, no light rock/ballads and no techno. It's similar to "Headbanger's Ball", but this C.D. seems to be almost a sampler of every band connected to Road Runner Records.
This soundtrack is every metalhead's dream. Just because it's all heavy, doesn't mean there's no variety...

3.0 out of 5 stars Still better than its namesake movie...
First off, let me say, this soundtrack was much better than its movie equivalent. Now, to the cd itself. Basically a Roadrunner Records mixtape. Now this isn't a bad thing, but a little more variety would have been nice. However I am surprised that they left out songs from Coal Chamber and Fear factory. These are great bands that ALWAYS make it onto Roadrunner...

4.0 out of 5 stars A sick soundtrack to a sick movie!, June 27, 2004
This review is from: Freddy Vs Jason (Audio CD)
Movies like Freddy and Jason are expected to have soundtracks like this one. There's no rap, no light rock/ballads and no techno. It's similar to "Headbanger's Ball", but this C.D. seems to be almost a sampler of every band connected to Road Runner Records.
This soundtrack is every metalhead's dream. Just because it's all heavy, doesn't mean there's no variety. There's something on here for everyone who enjoys hard music. There's nu-metal (Powerman 5000, Ill Nino), melodic metal (Spineshank), metalcore (Killswitch Engage), hard rock (Seether), veterans to the metal scene (Type O Negative, Sepultura), hardcore (Hatebreed), thrash influenced metal (Lamb of God, Devildriver) gothic metal (Murderdolls), and even this "New Wave of American Heavy Metal" thing (Chimaira, In Flames). There are probably even a few metal bands you haven't heard or heard of (The Blank Theory, Nothingface).
By now, metalheads should be licking their chops and preparing for a butt kicking.

Highlights include:

"How Can I Live" combines hard rock (vaguely reminiscent of P.O.D.) with melodic vocals (for the most part) and tribal drums. A good, catchy nu-metal tune that perfectly mixes together different sounds. If you're new to Ill Nino, I recommend you start here.
"When Darkness Falls" would have made a good opening track. The first thirty-or-so seconds are a really heavy onslaught that tears the listener's head off. The song then adds melody (the rest of the song is a lot more melodic), but metal riffs return every now and then. The lyrics are quite repetitive, but the music and vocals change frequently. It's kind of weird and random, but the singer's surprisingly soulful voice make it all come together well.
"Beginning of the End" is the most melodic and radio friendly
song on here. The Deftones-esque rock is fairly hard, but the singer's nice, non-violent voice (which even soars at times) keeps the song melodic. A pretty good song.
"Sun Doesn't Rise" is a good listen, and that's it. This song is from Mushroomhead's new album, but it could have fit in perfectly with the last. There are dual vocals (with one guy sounding like he's vomiting, at times) and pretty unimpressive guitars and drums; but it's catchy enough to be a good listen if you don't overanalyze it.
"Snap" is Slipknot at an infant stage (from 1997). This isn't as hard as Slipknot usually are, and this song sounds somewhat silly (it repeats the same line over and over: "I'm gonna snap, gonna snap..."), but it's catchy and Slipknot fans will eat it up.
"Army of Me" and "The After Dinner Payback" are both really speedy and hard. From Autumn to Ashes prove to be surprisingly heavy, with almost monstrous vocals and instruments.
"Leech" is a fairly typical Sevendust song. Sevendust's robust sound includes their famous hard rock (crunchy guitars) coupled with soulful vocals and, at times, pretty music. A good, catchy song.
"Bombshell" isn't listed as "previously unreleased", because it was released on PM5K's "Anyone for Doomsday" C.D. But since it was pulled, there are very few copies of it floating around. Some songs from it, like "Bombshell", were released only to soundtracks. So, for all intensive purposes, "Bombshell" is new. It's also a pretty awesome song. A wee-, bit of techno finds its way into the beginning and before the choruses, but "Bombshell" is a very energetic, hook infested, hard rocking, head banging, mosh-pit swirling song. The huge choruses are a big part of it, but this song is a lot harder and catchier than anything on PM5K's new "Transform."
"Welcome to the Strange" sounds like what the Murderdolls sound like. It sounds sort of like a speedy Marilyn Manson, mixed with glam rock. The vocals don't quite snarl, but don't sing either. It's a pretty weird song, but pretty catchy, too.
"11th Hour" makes up for the lack of Deicide on this soundtrack. It is by far the hardest song on here; with monstrous vocals, guitars and double-bass pedals throughout make a huge wall of very hard metal. I can just imagine Freddy and Jason duking it out while this song plays.

But, this C.D. comes with a major draw back. According to the tracklisting, 13 songs (14, if you count "Bombshell") were previously unreleased. This seems to say it's a collection of rare songs and b-sides. Unfortunatly, it is not. Seven of the "previously unreleased songs" (tracks 1,2,3,4,8 & 15) were released again, on the band's own C.D., later in the year. Plus, even though "Out of My Way" and "Inside the Cynic" weren't on Seether or Stone Sour's original C.D., both bands later re-released their album with extra tracks, and these tracks they contributed to this soundtrack were included. So, if you're planning to buy the C.D.s from some these bands on here, you'll end up owning some of their songs twice.

Only tracks 5,6,9,10,12 & 16 are the true b-sides and rarities that you can't find anywhere else. If you're a big fan of those bands, you may want to get this soundtrack just for those songs.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best movie soundtrack I've ever heard!, September 4, 2005
By
This review is from: Freddy Vs Jason (Audio CD)
I'm not going to type a long review explaining it, so I'll just do a track listing.

1.ill nino-How Can I Live:5/5 Great song from a great band.

2.Killswitch Engage-When Darkness Falls:5/5 Starts out real fast and heavy, but slows way down and gets really medolic. Great mix of fast and slow.

3.Spineshank-The Beggining of the End:4/5 One of the slower songs, but really catchy and it will probably get stuck in your head.

4.Mushroomhead-Sun Doesn't Rise:5/5 Another good song from a really cool band. Catchy.

5.Hatebreed-Condemned untill Rebirth:4/5 I'm not a big fan of "hardcore" metal, but this is another catchy song.

6.Slipknot-Snap:3/5 Slipknot is one of my favorite nu-metal bands but, this song is really repetitve and annoying. But, it's an unrealeased track from them so if your a 'knot fan, it's just cool to hear it.

7.Chimara-Army of Me:4/5 I really like Chimera but they have better songs. Still a damn good listen though.

8.From Autumn to Ashes-The After Dinner Payback:4/5 I dont really like this band much but this song is pretty good. Classic metalcore.

9.Sevendust-Leech:5/5 Your typical Sevendust song.

10.Powerman 5000-Bombshell:3/5 I don't like their style of metal that much but this song is alright.

11.Murderdolls-Welcone to the Strange:3/5 Again, I don't really like this band but this song is OK.

12.Seether-Out of My Way:4/5 surprisingly good for Seether.Super catchy.

13.Stone Sour-Insidehe Cynic:5/5 It's Cory Taylor other band, of course it's going to be good.

14.Devildriver-Swinging the Dead:5/5 Take Coal Chamber vocalist and put him into a better, harder hitting band. AWESOME!

15.Sepultra-The Waste:5/5 Not your Typical Sepultra, much slower, but still great.

16.The Blank Theory-Middle of Nowhere:4/5 Good but not great.

17.Nothingface-Ether:5/5 Slow, but still an awesome song from a great band.

18.In Flames-Trigger:6/5 One of my favorite songs from my favorite band. Fast and melodic. Classic IF.

19.Lamb of God-11th Hour:10/5 Its Lamb of God at their finest.

20.Type O' Negative-We were(electocute)4/5 Maybe the slowest song on the CD but still a good listen.

Once again, the greatest soundtrack ever.

5.0 out of 5 stars A decent purchase for people who like heavier music., September 3, 2003

I bought this soundtrack on a whim because I thought the movie looked kinda cool. Let me tell you, I don't regret my purchase for a second.

The CD is pretty heavy, so if you don't like music with lots of distorted guitars, or screaming vocals I wouldn't suggest buying it. But if this type of music is your thing this album should be right up your alley.

I personally enjoy every song on this album, but some tracks that I really enjoy are:

Ill Nino-How Can I live

Spineshank-Beginning of The End

Slipknot- Snap ['97 Demo]

Seether-Out of My Way

Murderdolls- Welcome to the Strange

Stonesour- Inside the Cynic

and finally, Nothingface- Ether

Also, despite the presence of a Parental Advisory, the album only has one mildly explicit song, which is "Snap ['97 Demo]" by Slipknot.

In conclusion, if you enjoy metal or harder music, this album is for you, if not however, you may want to stay away.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worthy of carrying the Freddy & Jason name, August 20, 2003
This review is from: Freddy Vs Jason (Audio CD)
You had to know that when 'Freddy Vs. Jason' was released it was going to be accompanied by an over-the-top metal soundtrack. However, I don't think anyone expected it to be this good. Fifteen out of the twenty tracks are unreleased/rare material from some of today's most established metal bands. There is something for everyone who loves metal here. You have your nu-metal (Slipknot, Powerman 5000) your old-school metal (Sepultura, Type O Negative) your hardcore (Hatebreed, Killswitch Engage) and your modern-rock metal (Seether, Ill Nino). Two of my favorite songs come from Spineshank ("Beginning Of The End") and Ill Nino ("How Can I Live") who open and close the movie respectively. Murderdolls are starting to grow on me (it began with their cover of "White Wedding") and "Welcome To The Strange" has me hooked. Seether deliver an unexpected relatively heavy song with "Out Of My Way." Dez Fafara (formerly of Coal Chamber) makes his debut with his new band Devildriver on "Swinging the Dead," which is, at least musically, more interesting than anything Coal Chamber ever did. Previously released material by Nothingface, In Flames and Type O Negative are really great songs in their own and help to beef up the soundtrack. But, just like all soundtracks there are a few duds. Slipknot's "Snap" is pretty corny, and basically sounds like an alternate version of "Spit It Out." Sevendust continue the trend of releasing boring songs for soundtracks (started with "Fall" from 'Scream 3') on "Leech" (thankfully it's a b-side from 2001's 'Animosity,' which means the new album won't be like this). However, you'd be hard-pressed to not find something you like on here. It's got great variety and is pretty much listenable the whole way through. It fits the movie perfectly (much like the "Bride of Chucky" soundtrack (a film also directed by Ronny Yu) which I highly recommend in addition to this). If you even consider buying this album for just a second, you need to get it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly good, January 5, 2004
This review is from: Freddy Vs Jason (Audio CD)
The Freddy VS Jason soundtrack can be a mixed bag for some depending on your definition of metal. Consisting of a plethora of unreleased tracks and a few previously (and soon to be) released tracks, I found this soundtrack to be surprisingly good. I actually even enjoyed the opening track "How Can I Live" by Ill Nino, and they're a band that I don't like that much to begin with. Other solid tracks include the previously unavailable "Condemned Until Rebirth" by Hatebreed, DevilDriver's "Swinging the Dead", and the great "The Waste" by Sepultura and former Faith No More and current Fantomas frontman Mike Patton. The previously released cuts by Lamb of God, In Flames, and Type O Negative are also noteworthy. I didn't dig Sevendust's "Leech" or Powerman 5000's "Bombshell", and I can't stand From Autumn to Ashes one bit. All that aside though, the Freddy VS Jason soundtrack is surprisingly good, and worth picking up.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow! GOOD Marketing!!!, September 24, 2003
This review is from: Freddy Vs Jason (Audio CD)
Soon as I saw the movie I decided to pick up the soundtrack due to the fact that it's frickin' LOADED with goodies. A true hardrock fan like myself, this soundtrack had me drooling over it. Nearly every song on here is fabulous, and worth listening to.

1. This is a track by Ill Niño, a slightly more mainstream band, but it's still a good song. It has its typical Ill Niño style, with hard parts and lovely little melodies, but I'm shocked because I can't find where they put their trademark random spanish!! WHERE IS IT?? Anyways, it's a good song, and catchy, and you'll find yourself singing it. A lot.
2. It's Killswitch Engage. Of course it's good. Killswitch tore it up at Ozzfest, they rock, this song rocks, what more is there? It's got crazy guitar and a spiffy little chorus and such that just...makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. O the joy of good music!
3. A new Spineshank song, and I actually don't like it. It's alright, Not very Spineshank like, actually. I mean, there's parts that have Spineshank characteristics, but all in all, it's not Spineshank, and it just doesn't grown on me. Others might like, particularly if they like the first track by Ill Niño.
4.NEW MUSHROOMHEAD!! It's a great song. Mushroomhead sticks to their style, but they've evolved and it shows. J-Mann still knows how to do it, and Jeffrey Nothing has gotten slightly more melodic, but it's still them, and it's one of my favorites from this album. Can't wait for the new Mushroomhead!
5. Hatebreed is a band that one must develop a taste for. I myself love Hatebreed, and this is plain and simply all the way Hatebreed. All angry and hard guitar, and short and sweet. It's hardcore, it's loud, it's Hatebreed. What else can I say?
6. I'm not an overly huge Slipknot fan, particularly after Iowa. Great metal album, terrible Slipknot album. Snap goes back to GOOD Slipknot, like their self-titled. Snap is one of the best Slipknot songs I've heard. :)
7. This song is AWESOME. I got a chance to see Chimaira live, and they are about twenty thousand times better live than they are in the studio. I can only imagine what this song is like live! Pantera fans will find similarites with this songs Outro and the one from Domination. ... Good times!

8. This song is mediocre. It has a rather epic tone to it, and it's obviously death/thrash metal. The versus are great, and I love them, but the chorus and pre-chorus just don't tickle my happy spot. O well. Still worth listening to.
9. Sevendust has always been a great band, and thus, this song is great. I particularly like the guitar riff in the verse. And the chorus is well done. I've always loved the voice of the singer, it's unique, and beautiful.
10. O c'mon, you haven't heard this song? GET UP GET UP GET UP DROP THE BOMBSHELL. Awesome song, good old-fashioned Powerman style, unlike their new album, which is good, BUT NOT PM5K. So depressing -.-
11. This is a rather weird Murderdolls song...less punk. But it's still punk. And I dunno. I love it. I just like bouncing around to it. The guitar is catchy. As is the chorus. Okay the whole song is catchy.
12. I don't like Seether. I don't listen to Seether. This song sucks, because it's Seether.
13. See above, but apply the name Stone Sour. XD
14. This song rocks my casbah. It's just pounding and crunching and high energy all the through and [very] good. And Coal Chamber fans just might recongize the voice of the lead singer ;) Funny thing about this song is you can sing the chorus of "breakin' the law" with it. Sort of. Haha. Alright, now go jam to that guitar[!]
15. Weird Sepultura. And that is SO Mike Patton.
16. This songs reminds me of Adema. But it's Blank Theory. It's actually a good song. Nifty intro. Two thumbs up.
17. Nothingface is absolutely one of my favorite bands and their new CD is amazing. This song is in fact one of my favorite songs from that album. It has a perfect mix of melody and rawness that sends shivers down your spines. Absolutely wonderful song.
18 & 19. Two really good Death Metal songs. Not much to say really. It's ear candy.
20. This song blows me away (as does Type-O Negative). The lead singers voice is hauntingly beautiful (figures with 6 years of Opera training) as is the entire song. I want to eat this song up and keep it forever. It's the best song on here. Listen to it.

So there you have it. This is the best marketing ploy Roadrunner has come up with, because it's FABULOUS ear candy. Buy the album do it do it do it! And hey, the movie wasn't too bad either. XD

(btw, if the order is different than wot Amazon.com has listed, it's 'cause that is how my CD is set up. I have Type-O Negative as 20, and there's other things, but I'm too lazy to pay attention. Have a nice day now.)

4.0 out of 5 stars killer soundtrack, finally!, September 9, 2003
This review is from: Freddy Vs Jason (Audio CD)
overall i was impressed to see a soundtrack with some substance to it. as a whole it is very good. my personal favorites are: killswitch, chimaira, hatebreed, from autumn to ashes, lamb of god, in flames, and devil driver. the rest of it, i really don't care for. but, the unreleased songs by these bands more than make up for the void left by the other bands. the killswitch song has their new throat howard jones on it, beautiful brutality. the chimaira track has the same vibe that their new album has to it, awesome! the hatebreed song just rocks! from autumn to ashes' offering shows improvement since their debut album, no small feat on an already awesome sound. a taste of what's to come in the very near future. in flames and lamb of god, i had heard very little from them in the past, but these 2 songs made me an instant fan. very intense sound! and finally devil driver, coal chamber front man dez's new gig. same vocal style as before. but the music is much more intense, i like it. anyways, as a whole those songs are worth the $15 bucks alone, nevermind the other jibberish there. but that's just my opinion.

Wow! i bought this cd for slipknot, stone sour and murderdolls. but there is so much more to offer best tracks by ILL NINO( the chorus in this song is amazing!) from autumn to ashes,( sorda pun guitars but the drums and vocal are great) Hatebreed,( heavy metal at its best!!!!) Devildriver( another heavy heavy song),nothingface,( the best on this cd) the blank theory the riffs in every song is great, and the drumming pure genius. ( to me mushroomhead sounds alot like disturbed) so if you like any form of hard rock or heavy metal u'll like this cd you will bepleased. A must for any hard rock/metal fan. theonly thing that would make this better is if they had KoRn, marilyn manson and muayne had been on here
