Inspiring Color Use, Less than Inspiring Design,
By
This review is from: Freddy's House (Paperback)
Being a creative quilter who shys away from traditional colors and patterns, I was drawn to Freddy's book. Her use of color is bold and brave, but her color theory and design skills leave a bit too be desired. The book isn't intended to be a how-to book, but rather an inspiration to quilters and that is it's success. If you are a quilter trying to break out of your calico mold then this is the book for you. If how-to books are what you seek then you might want to look elsewhere.

Freddys House,
By A Customer
This review is from: Freddy's House (Paperback)
The book was a disappointment. I was expecting lots of patterns and information, which was very little, 4 projects only. It really is a book about her house and reaction to it, how she has found herself etc. It is very colorful, beautiful paper and I think it was very unusual, which alot of people will love, it might make a great coffee table book, but for someone who was expecting more quilting information, for the price of a years subscribtion to the best quilting magazine, I was a little disappointed.

Love the COLORS! Where's the patterns?,
This review is from: Freddy's House (Paperback)
I was drawn to the bold and daring use of colors that Freddy uses in all her quilts. It was fun to see how she organized and freely uses color in her home decorating. But I was disappointed when I discovered only four patterns and they weren't very user friendly. Lot's of the other interesting quilts that were featured had no patterns to go along with them. However it did inspire me to begin collecting wild, exciting prints and black and white fabric. Thanks Freddy for sharing your House!

Inspiring,
By Ralston "ralston" (Mill Valley, CA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Freddy's House (Paperback)
The colors that Freddy's House display throughout her house and in her quilts is inspiring. I am always looking for new ideas and inspiration and her bright colors, pattern combinations and black and white accents make me want to sit down and create a new quilt and most importantly get beyond my standard palette. More patterns would be fun, but the color ideas are powerful. Thanks Freddy.

Sparked my Imagination,
By A Customer
This review is from: Freddy's House (Paperback)
Loved all the bright colors! So much fun to find these designs that allow you to create something new and exciting in every square, intead of a monotonous repetition. Inspired me to start collecting the fabrics that I already loved and had no idea what I could ever do with them all. The actual patterns that she provided were not so useful, but anyone who has done any rotary cutting and quilting should be able to improvise. I made an elongated version into a school as a border piece for a lap quilt for my son's teacher. However, since the actual patterns were mostly left up to the reader, I do agree that the book should have been lower in price.

Feast of Color,
By Lobannio (Southwestern United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Freddy's House (Paperback)
This book is a visual feast. It's not just the multi-colored, multi-patterned "scrap" house quilts that are entrancing to look at here. The actual pages of the books are in rich jewel toned colors. In addition photos of Freddy's real house provide more color and ideas you want to use or be inspired by. It'll make you happy just flipping through this book. Hats off also to Ms. Moran's humble and spiritual attitude about her craft.

"Out of the Box" Quilting at it's best,
By Cath (www.makequilts.com in Lansing, KS) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Freddy's House (Paperback)
When I picked up Freddy's House, I did it on an impulse, the cover was cool! But once inside, I couldn't put it down. I have literally worn out my binding...that has never happened before...my fault not the publishers. This book is about a quilter's soul, what makes her tick, why she loves what she does, etc. It was well worth the money. I found such inspiration that I've been collecting black and white geometric prints just so my design studio will look like hers!! There are only 4 patterns in the book but it isn't a traditional quilt book either-so it works! Well done Freddy! This is one of my all time favorite quilt books -- by far.

Inspiring Book!,
By
This review is from: Freddy's House (Paperback)
This book is really fun - lots of gorgeous pictures, color inspiration, and encouragement to "go wild" with fabrics. I love to look at it! The designs are all based on a modern approach to traditional school-house blocks. True, it's more of a "coffee table" book than an instruction book, but that's why I bought it - for the inspiration. (I love that she considers "red" a neutral color!)

She surrounds herself with color!,
By Mrs. B (Indiana, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Freddy's House (Paperback)
The quilt patterns and instructions are incidental to the fabulous color inspiration in this book. Freddy shows us her bold use of color in her home as well as in her quilts. EVERY page is filled with fabulous color! If color turns you on and you are looking for a boost in creativity, this is the book for you!

Wrong measurements for one of the patterns,
By A Customer
This review is from: Freddy's House (Paperback)
I borrowed this book from a friend and just loved it, so now am going to order one, to keep. I was so inspired! I could not wait to go and find just the right material to make a block. When I was cutting it today, I found that the measurements were not accurate. Being somewhat of a new quilter, I was able to sort it out, but am wondering was it me? I still recommend this book. Freddy is so creative and I loved it. The house block that I made was on page 61. Four pcs. had to be cut again, as I could not make them fit with the rest of the house. |
