Excellent resource for designers,

The Pandoran WarOlmstead was the king. I was born across the street from an Olmstead park. Cazenovia. I spent 5 years in undergrad (lol...it was a lot of fun) at a college on former Olmstead grounds across the street from Delaware park. Of course everyone knows Central Park, but it is unfortunate only planners and architects generally appreciate the breadth of his work and influence. Great book which goes into a lot of background.
