5.0 out of 5 stars Buy This Album! March 3, 2011
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
I don't know what the negative review is about...the beats on this album are pretty tight and Joell's lyrics are straight blazin! Dude is one of the nicest and most underrated rappers out. That Battle Cry joint is insane! I'd get the album for that track alone...awesome beat and 100 bars of nonstop fire! If you love hip hop do yourself a favor and cop this album...you'll be thanking yourself for it.
Slaughterhouse!

5.0 out of 5 stars another great 4.5 star release November 12, 2011
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
After over a year of push backs for this album alone, and only his 2nd album released on CD, Mr. Ortiz finally returns with another solo, and it's been WAY too long. His debut solo album was released in April, '07 ("The Brick: Bodega Chronicles") and it was a borderline 4.5/5 star, Great album. Since then, somehow he has managed to been avoided, as far as solo releases were concerned. He put out a few mixtapes and MP3 albums, managed to get signed to Aftermath, only to be dropped before anything was released (a HUGE and rare mistake on their part, as Joell Ortiz is one of the most talented lyricists around, and I've been a huge fan ever since I first heard him on a track way back in 2001). At least his enormous talent was finally recognized and put to its use; as a member of the super-lyricist group Slaughterhouse (him, along with: Royce da 5'9", Joe Budden, and Crooked I), which has been putting out high quality albums and songs since '09. But back to this album, it is everything you would expect from him, and is a very solid 4.5 star effort. With 13 songs on it (1 he isn't on); you get 2 Classics, 2 near classic tracks, 5 good or real good ones, 3 that are ok, and 1 that I skip over (which is the one song Joell isn't on). Guests are on 7 of the songs; rapping on 3 And just doing the hook on the other 4. Production is nice as well, and handled by many different people. Frank Dukes does 2 songs, Just Blaze, DJ Premier, Sean C & LV, Large Professor, DJ Khalil, Frequency, Novel & Mike Herard, Nottz, Knobody, Kenny Dope, Broadway all do 1 song. A must have album from one of the best lyricists around.

#1 - 10 (CLASSIC - Great beat & min. & Half straight of rapping)
#2 - 9.

5.0 out of 5 stars I miss good rap like this... May 6, 2011
Format:Audio CD
I miss the good ol' days when rap was actually about lyrics. If you're a fan of Joell Ortiz, then you know that he's a MONSTER! This album had 1 song on it that was kinda bad, but ALL the rest were great to me! I have no idea why, but I love the song Checkin for ya. Another good song is Sing like Bilal. I have nothing but good things to say about this CD. I'm hoping that there's a part 2 coming soon.

4.0 out of 5 stars solid album but... April 4, 2011
By juggy
Format:MP3 Music
the problem with joell's official debut is that its best that you download the mp3 version of the album. the reason i say that is because there are 2 songs that have EXTENDED VERSIONS of them that are not on this album example: PUT SOME MONEY ON IT of the free agent version of the album is just joell and the lox but theres a SLAUGHTERHOUSE REMIX on the slaughtuerhouse ep, also there is an extra verse on dj premier version of SING LIKE BILAL, which is featured on his year round album. other than those 2 songs the album is dope BATTLE CRY IS THIS ALBUMS GEM. the album is strong buy it

5.0 out of 5 stars There Is No Denying How Great This Music Is December 2, 2010
By John S
Format:MP3 Music
I was presently surprised by this CD because it is of professional quality with an excellent mixing of a variety of instruments and vocals. I've been listening to it as much as I can. I just can't get enough. I plan on taking to my company Holiday Party and bribing the DJ to play it. I'm sure that once the soulful beats populate the air the whole attitude of the party is going to change and everyone can concentrate on the business of getting down... After party at the Riverhead!
