Surf Guitar Music NOT found here!, August 27, 2005

This is not the Surf Rock Launchers that I was hoping to hear for the first time. There is a hard to find Nokie Edwards album which features Surf guitar expert Kayama Yuzo, allegedly an ex-Launcher. I am sorry to say that I was unable to get the Edwards-Yuzo CD...instead, I thought I would try something by the Launchers. What a mistake! Only one song on the album features electric guitars .The rest of it is super over orchestrated with strings and horns...to me this album sounds like something by The Association...or maybe The Left Banke...or Boyce and Hart on a bad day (I say that because I happen to like some of what B & H do). Maybe that is what the title of the album refers to: The Association! The cover looks like "Revolver" by the Fab Four...but there is little "fab" about this stuff. Unfortunately, my curiousity is such that I have ordered ANOTHER Launchers CD. I sincerely hope that it is Surf music exclusively.The Jimi Hendrix lyric, "You'll never hear surf music again" definitely applies to "Free Association" by Japan's Launchers.
