I was working on my 2008 top ten lists to share with friends, and I found myself stumped as to any cd that blew me away all year. Then I saw this CD mentioned by Bruce of "Not Lame" records as a must have. This went straight to #1 on my list-- the other reviewers have it right-- Queen, Jellyfish, ELO, Todd, and maybe a dash of 70's Elton, Billy Joel and Supertramp thrown in-- but those are just reference points. Josh Fix sounds fresh and alive in in 2008! If any of the aforementioned artists put out this record last year, it would be a truly remarkable achievement. This guy is a genius.

I saw Josh Fix open for ABC at the Independent in San Francisco, and despite only seeing about 5 songs, I was hooked. Bought the cd (for a TENNER!), and have been playing it ever since. You will LOVE this cd. I can't wait to see him again! It is EVERYTHING everybody says - GREAT!

Finally, the full length debut from the uber-talented Josh Fix. I've been waiting for this release since I first heard his incredibly well done EP, "Steinway the Hard Way".
This new album was streamed on his website for some time and I would regularly go back to the site to listen to these amazing songs. I am so glad to finally have copies of them for my own collection! All songs on this album are great - but in particular don't miss the incredible tracks "Don't Call Me In the Morning", "Free At Last", "The Water in My Brain", "Jethro" and my long time favorite "Burn It Down". Every song on this album will stand the test of time and will stick with you... don't be surprised if you can't get these tracks out of your head! Do yourself a favor and buy yourself a copy of Josh Fix's major label debut, Free At Last. You won't be disappointed.

Entirely new to Josh Fix as late as 2010, here goes: By the time he gets to the first chorus of the opening song, I was thoroughly floored, thinking within mere moments that this is [see title of my review]. Then the second song: could have been one of the best tunes off of Tumbleweed Connection, backed with harmonies by Queen. As the album played on, every single song but for possibly one (not telling, but the bell's a bit annoying) fully merits my review title. Although, a couple of his songs show that he can also slow things down to a gentler loveliness.
When I read the Amazon Editorial Review by 'melodic.net' before hearing the album, it struck me as rather breathlessly over the top, but now... I could not have said it better myself, nor would I tone it down. Also I agree with A. Kinsman: This guy is a genius. After the other customer reviews, nothing original here, but: this is Jason Falkner and Jellyfish meet Queen on the road to the awesome singularity that is Josh Fix. I'm not especially familiar with the Queen canon, but it's 100% safe to assure you that if you love Falkner, and Jellyfish, and Queen (I suppose, anyway) and first-rate power-pop genius, you will joyfully love Free At Last. Be prepared to want to learn all the lyrics so you can sing your heart out along with Josh. You simply could not possibly go wrong here. Please buy.

A classic album nearly lost!!,
This review is from: Free At Last (Audio CD)
In the autumn of 2007 I downloaded this album and was blown away. There are lots of good indie songwriters around who put 4/5/6 great tracks on a CD but every single track here is a winner. I expected this to be everywhere by the middle of 2008 and nothing but slowly people are waking up! Buy this CD you just wont believe how good it is!!!!!!!!!!!!

This official full-length debut CD's release was delayed for so long that I finally purchased it on iTunes and then again when 1650 Entertainment released the "hardcopy" in 2008 (which has a beautiful lyrics sheet, by the way). This amazingly great, piano-based, pop music mirrors many classic pop artists but does so, so well that you simply have to ask yourself: Where in the world does this talent sprout from and why don't I have that same talent? Just wait until you check it out. I'd nearly guarantee money-back if you find nothing magical on this CD. If you are big on piano-based, multiple-faceted pop music, start here because you really have Josh Fix to look forward to. Seek and enjoy. Think: Elton John crossed with Queen, meeting up with Jellyfish and jamming with Ben Folds. There you go.

Finally, FINALLY!,
This review is from: Free At Last (MP3 Download)
I have been waiting so, so long for this day.
I discovered Josh Fix thanks to a music website called [...]. I typed in the name of an artist I loved (Ben Folds) and despite Josh being a small time artist, his music played and I was in love. His songs have a refreshing newness to them. It's piano pop/rock without sounding overproduced. I just really, really like it. Take a dip and download 'Burn It Down' or 'Bad With the Superbad'. Then get the whole album. You wont regret it! (And Josh, come to Texas. ;_; Please. I'll buy shirts, CDs, whatever you want! I know you love the bay area, but you're a big dog now! So tour to Austin! Or something!) |
