Very much Christian, and very much AWESOME,
By
This review is from: Free to Conquer (Audio CD)
Explosive album, all kinds of great, but despite what others may think, this is very much Christian music. Just because it's Christian music doesn't mean it has to suck. Check out "Game of Love" for instance. "To think that I'm Your favorite, To think that I'm Your son", "To think that You're my Father, Your blood runs through my veins". It's about a father-son relationship with God. But the bottom line is this, if you're looking for great screamo, you've found it right here.

Sounds Like Subseven To Me,
By
This review is from: Free to Conquer (Audio CD)
I bought Subseven's EP last year and when I bought this cd I was so disappointed they didn't have my favorite song "Faded Letters" on it. However that was the only complaint I had. In my oppinion Subseven is an awesome Christian band and they have helped me replace bands like Story of the Year and My Chemical Romance with their music. I bought Subseven because they are produced by Flicker records and so is one of my other favorite bands called Pillar. If you see this cd in stores or you feel like buying it online go for it its totally worth it. It makes a good addition to a cd collection. Your Reviewer Shadow.

When I first heard free to conquer I thought "great another generic screamo band." But When I listened to them for a while I realized that this band was amazing. The singer adds something to the music which I have not found in any other band. I mean many bands are good because of an awesome guitarist or and awesome drumer, but what makes this band is the singer, especially on songs like "Hold ON" when he sings these great notes and holds them out. I just really love this band. They also have a great christian message. This isn't some generic "christian wimpy stupid wannabe band" . This band is for real and beats many of the other bands clear out of the water.
Sounds like : Beloved, Emery, story of the Year

I have known these guys since they were right out if High School, they're like my brothers, so i've heard a lot of their changes in their music. and i think this is by far some of their best work ever. but btw, they sound NOTHING like story of the year, in my opinion story of the year sucks, subseven does NOT. :) they're their own, they rock because they want to, they send out a message of love, not only in their music, but their hearts also. :)

The christian rock industry has done nothing but grow off late. Bands like Kutless, Seventh Day Slumber, and Day of Fire broke through to release there Brand of post grunge/hard rock. Whereas 38th parallel, Thousand foot krutch and falling up brought nu-metal into the fold along with punk rockers Relient K, Halwk Nelson and Fm static. All that was really missing was a good emo/screamo band. Last years release of subsevens ep bridged that gap and now the band is back with it's full length debut. Not only is subseven one of the very few christian emo rock bands around but theyre also really great and sound just as good as mainstream coubterparts The used, story of the year etc. And like the ep this debut proves it.
Although it could have been a lot better. Any1 who owned the ep will make comparisons and at first free to conquer will come across as dissapointment. First of all some of the ep's greatest songs wernt put on this albumn e.g "begginging once again", "faded letters" and "emotion". The tracks from the ep that were put on the album have been revamped and do not sound as good as they did on the ep. This album has a different feel then that of the ep. This can be seen on the 7 new tracks exclusive to this album. "hold on" and "upto you" are the only songs that show signs of the blistering guitar riffs that were found on the ep. The rest are slowed tempo and melodic. Even a track as heavy as mayday that was found on the ep has been changed and has a completely different feel to it.(they completely removed the screamy pre-corus that was found on the ep version. Subseven could have made this album better by putting some of the other songs from the ep on this album or if they wudnt have tampered with the tracks taken from the ep. So as it is the album will dissapoint at first but any fan of the ep or band will appreciate it after a few listens as there is still a lot to take from this album. tracls like breathe and blinking lights present a new melodic side of subseven which can be pleasing once it grows on you. This album is good and grows on you and it's the only good emo release out in the christian market but much has been chaged since the ep and if they would have added a few of the other tracks of the ep or not changed there sound ever so slightly this album would have been worth five stars.

Let me just start off with saying this,...I'm the reason Subseven is selling records here in Woodbridge, VA. :) Seriously.
I found these guys through the Flicker site, and ever since hearing "Emotion", I convinced the Christian bookstore I worked at to start selling their EP! I'm glad these boys got around to making a full LP, it's been quite some time. And needless to say, they haven't lost their touch. A bit of a different feeling from the EP, but a good mix of tracks, and good transition into other songs just like the EP.
