I'm not a ski patrol person. I don't want to spend 300$+ on a HH jacket. At the same time, I am sort of over buying a 60 dollar 4 in 1 jacket yearly from one of the megastores, only to have it crap out on me a few months later.

This Free Country jacket seems to fit the bill just fine. At 105 including 3.99 one day shipping, it's a very versatile jacket, and much warmer than the ones you would find at target or walmart. I wish the hood were a little tighter fitting, as with the little cinches it still flaps around in the wind sometimes. However, I plan on wearing a hat when it gets very cold, so no real complaints.

It's dipped into the 30's here in Chicago, and I still just use the outer jacket; there's been no need to break out the inner shell just yet. One of the upper zippers is a little finicky at times, but I rarely store things in there anyway.

If you're a hardcore wintersports person, I would look to get something nicer, like an HH jacket, but if you live in an area where the coldest it gets is 20 or 30, you'll be perfectly satisfied with this one.

This is an excellent coat for the price! I love the different layers, so my son has options. I definitely recommend this coat!

I had nothing for my first ski trip and so I saw this jacket on sale and bought it without doing any research. Well, I hit the jackpot! It was a third of the price of the basic styles sold in brick and mortar stores. Now about it's features:

-warm as hell! Perfect for freezing temperatures. If you get too warm just take a layer off!

-water resistant

-looks good and feels good!

-plenty of pockets

-flexible!

This is a really big, thick jacket. Bought it for our 13-year-old because he needed a big jacket but this was a little more than expected, he probably won't get much use out of it. Actually, it also seems to run a tad on the bigger size as far as sizing goes so maybe next year he is wearing it some. It's a very nice quality jacket and the different options are nice and easy to change. If you're in really cold weather, this is probably a good buy for you. We live in SoCal though, so not too often we need one quite this heavy. But would definitely buy from this company again, really like this look and feel of it.

I would have given the jacket 5 stars, but the first one that we received had a very poorly sewn seam. That caused the seam to split and then tear. Aside from that issue, which Amazon handled without a hitch, I don't have anything negative to say about the jacket - especially given that we got it for steal during a winter clothing deal. This is a VERY warm jacket and does just fine in Vermont's harsh winter climate. It's very sturdy and has all of the features that you expect in much higher end winter jackets. It is a little on the heavy side, so I wouldn't buy it for skiing, but for everyday, run of mill stuff, it's perfect.
