Where is the rest of the story?,

Haverty provides an acurate feel for the modern day internal conflict in an Irish society (3 stars for that alone) dealing with new found prosperity. Many characters are introduced but you really aren't given the opportunity to know them.
The storyline has huge potential but the reader is left rather disappointed with the "ending". I placed quotes around the word ending because the book more accurately stops in mid stride. Through the first 200+ pages the reader is introduced to the many characters and slowly given a flavor of modern day life in prosperous Dublin. During the last 50 pages no fewer than ten characters have significant life events that are simply mentioned but never expanded upon. When the book suddenly ends (not concluded) the reader is left wondering if there is a second volume that somehow was lost in the mail. |
