Book Description

October 8, 2002
When recurrent nightmares of falling drive Denise to undergo hypnosis, she discovers she lived a previous life as Olivia Walters, the wife of a powerful plantation owner in South Carolina just prior to the Civil War. Sickened by her husband Byron's cruelty toward her and the slaves, Olivia finds solace in a budding friendship with her coach driver, Wilson. When friendship turns into love, however, Olivia and Wilson are faced with decisions that affect their very lives. Above all else, Wilson longs to be free, and Olivia is forced to choose her path in a society where the lines of color are deeply etched. As Denise re-lives Olivia's journey from the moss-draped oaks of Chesterfield Plantation to the frantic streets of Charleston during South Carolina's secession, it becomes hard to tell where Olivia's life ends and hers begins. She knows that if she's not careful, history will repeat itself.

As all my friends know, I'm an extremely busy person. You're blessed if you can catch me at home for five minutes--much less an entire weekend--but that all changed when I started reading Free Falling. I practically locked myself in my room for days, and the outside world ceased to exist. I couldn't put the book down. I just had to keep reading to find out what would happen next.

5.0 out of 5 stars MIDWEST BOOK REVIEW, July 22, 2003
This review is from: Free Falling (Paperback)
Denise is having recurring nightmares that are terrifying her, because of this she seeks the help of Dr. Leopold, who gently convinces her that perhaps she is remembering a former life. This at first horrifies Denise but something inside of her draws her back to the doctor to find out the truth.
Under hypnosis, Denise goes back to her past life as a young woman named Olivia who is married to an abusive husband. This is where the story truly blossoms.
Olivia falls in love with her coach driver Wilson, who is a black man.
They are drawn to each other by their deep desire to be free, one from the abuse of racism and one from the abuse of a cruel husband. Unfortunately their love causes both of their deaths. I found myself not able to put this book down until I completed the read.
Although I am not a believer in reincarnation, to me this was a story of deep love that spanned the fringes of time. The author does an excellent job in drawing you into the very life's of her characters as their world unfolds before your eyes.
I recommend this read, a real page turner with a very happy ending!
