Great Walker!,

The key to this one was its lightness. My elderly mother needed a wallking stick and couldn't have dealt with a heaven wooden one. Aluminum ones are light but not very attractive. The bamboo was beautiful and light!

Staff,

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
With age, one's knee joints tend to become a bit stiff. It's comparatively easy to sit on a seiza bench, and to meditate for an hour in relative comfort. But, on attempting to rise, the knees protest. Consequently, I was looking for a stout staff on which to PULL myself upright. This means putting almost all of one's weight on the vertical pole (in my case, about 175 lbs.)
I was unsure that a bamboo staff would have the necessary strength. Indeed it does. If you wondered why the Patriarchs of Zen and the Tao are commonly depicted with staffs, now you know. But, whether or not this would also prove a satisfactory walking stick, I can't say.

Iron Bamboo Walking Staff,
This review is from: Free Form Iron Bamboo Walking Stick
I ordered this staff after reading from many others on hiking and backpacking forums of liking the use of a walking staff, but sometimes a bit heavy. Iron bamboo offers superior strength, while being very light. So, I ordered this staff, the 58" version. Initially, I was disappointed as when it was received I noticed 4 or 5 cracks in the staff. None of them are very long, or very wide, but cracks nonetheless. Most of these cracks occur at the "joints" commonly found in bamboo. I thought of returning it, but then saw on Brazos Walking Sticks website, they even offer a reduced price version of this staff with "cracks filled". A picture revealed these were much larger cracks than anything on mine. So, I came to the conclusion that iron bamboo staffs, by their nature, can come with slight cracks. It's important to note that these few slight cracks I noticed have NOT jeopardized the integrity of the staff...it is VERY stiff and really strong, yet very light. So, I plan to epoxy resin fill these 4 or 5 small cracks myself and keep the staff. Overall, I am pleased with it...but if this crack issue is a showstopper for you, then you may want some other wood choice. 2115|R2N76KJDBUUWOR;2115|R3UGKZT1GP6A9C;2115|R37FVZE2ZUY12B;
