Book Description

Links checked and updated on June 19, 2014. If you own a version purchased prior to June 19th, you can contact Kindle support for a free update.

I built this list after my father paid several dollars for a classic that was available free on Kindle. Everybody who loves classic literature knows that it can be confusing to find out-of-copyright copies for free with so many people trying to sell paid versions of the same titles.

To download free eBooks directly, you must use Kindle Fire. Amazon has changed their other Kindle reader software (PaperWhite, eInk and Touch) so those users must use this eBook in Amazon's downloadable Cloud Reader ( on a PC or laptop to select and send the free classics to their Kindle. iPad users must use the Cloud Reader from "Manage Your Content and Devices" to use the download links, see "From The Author" below. Amazon Prime members are welcome to use their free monthly borrow to get this list and download hundreds of the free classics for future reading.

If you are reading on an old Kindle 2 or Kindle 1, you can add the book to your Wish List and the next time you use a computer to access Amazon, you can have the Wish List items sent to your Kindle for free.

Editorial Reviews

From the Author

If you read this eBook on your iPad in the Kindle app, you'll find that clicking the links to download free books produces an "Operation not supported" error. The work-around is to go to the Amazon website in your iPad Safari web browser and log into your Amazon account. At the upper right of the screen where it says "Welcome (your name), Your Account" with a little down arrow, click the arrow for the drop-down list and choose "Manage Your Content and Devices."

The new-look "Manage Your Content and Devices" on iPad shows all of the book covers in your library. Choose this book, tap the "more actions" button followed by "read now." This starts the Amazon Cloud Reader and you'll be able to read the eBook and use the links the same as if you owned an Amazon Fire.

The instructions above may sound complicated, but after you do it the first time, you'll find it goes 1-2-3.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice job on a useful resource January 7, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Morris Rosenthal has done a nice job here in curating an excellent resource for readers, one that would have saved me hundreds of dollars back in my days as an English major. Most of the times you spend a buck on the internet you never get it back. This dollar will come back to you again and again and again.

I recommend downloading Free Books For Kindle and KINDLE FREE FOR ALL) directly to the Kindle app on your PC or Mac and using them there for easy downloading of many a terrific book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really useful and will save you a bundle January 7, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Sure there are free books on Amazon, but finding them is not always so easy. This application helpfully alphabetizes a host of important books by author's name and then by title for each individual author. I have it on my IPAD and you just click on the book you are interested in, and it puts you right through to Amazon where you can then download it for free. A great application that will pay for itself hundreds of times over!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Treasure Trove May 28, 2011
By Calyx
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
As a newbie to Kindle (recently received one as a gift) and somewhat overwhelmed with learning what was available for the Kindle, I was delightfully surprised to discover such a thorough list of classics from which to choose. Not just a list, but a lifetime-of-reading classics just one click away... for free! I tested the list with my own lifetime list of classics still "to be read" and in all cases when they weren't available via this list, an explanatory note was included, stating, for example, that (some of) this author's works were not yet out of copyright (and therefore not free). The downloads I received through simply clicking the links on my Kindle (3g wireless) all worked fine and immediately. (The links take you to the book listing on Amazon, from where you order the download via your account at a price of $0). The list is alphabetical, by author, and under each author is a further alphabetical list of downloadable links to his/her works available for free. At this point, I've only had time to skim through the downloads I've received, and so far, they seem free of annoying typos, are easy to navigate, and the poetry has the original line breaks. I would definitely recommend this treasure trove of well-ordered links to anyone wishing to have an almost complete set of classics at their fingertips. You can hardly go wrong with this price of ninety-nine cents! Thanks to Mr. Rosenthal for a superb product: much appreciated.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Whole Truth About This Book! September 9, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
Straight to the point! Maybe the other reviewer was on a Kindle 2, in which case you need to download VIA computer. I'm in the B's so far & have searched through about 50 or more books. Out of those, I've selected about 35 or 40. Some I let go, cause I previously got them free, & have read about 150 ebooks since I got Kindle in December 2010. Only 3 on this book froze my Kindle 3G+ WiFi. I did the Alt+G to unfreeze it & went on. Your kindle will freeze somewhere, sometime. It's not the Authors fault! There are Authors like; Jane Austen, Lucy Montgomery, P.G.Wodehouse, Agatha Christie & many more. This book will be worthy of itself before you finish the B's. It's a handy "LINK" not just a "LIST". Go on buy it. I say so & I didn't even compile this book, but it will be a while before I finish it, & you will be busy a while too!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Resource for FREE Classics!!! January 7, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book is WELL worth the investment! While this book is billed as a "Linked List of Over 1,000 Free Fiction Classics," it is MUCH more than JUST a list of books with links to purchase the free public domain title in the Amazon store! The author has written a biographical sketch for each author he profiles in this book! I purchased this book today and have already learned SO many interesting facts about different authors. Mr. Rosenthal writes in a very friendly, personal manner. You almost feel as though you are having a conversation with a close friend as you read his reviews. His critiques of several of the featured authors have piqued my interest. I am looking forward to reading some new "old" authors. This is a valuable resource whether you are well-versed in classic literature or whether you are newbie looking to find more in-depth reading or just need to feed a voracious reading habit!

The Linked List is also very helpful. Each book has a link embedded into it, so when you click or touch it, the Amazon website opens directly on the book you were reading about.

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you are using the 3G version of the Kindle Touch, you must have the WIRELESS or WI-FI turned on to access these links. The 3G Experimental Browser on the Kindle Touch does not allow access to the regular Amazon website. If you have the WI-Fi turned on, you will have no problem purchasing your free books from your Kindle Touch!

It's usually time consuming and difficult to find all the free classics and this makes it easy. This program is very useful because it really works! Definitely worth a dollar :-) My Kindle is gonna be loaded, haha.

Wheere do I find a list of Ebooks to download/Borrow
I love to find books on Amazon, but sometimes other sources are needed. Originally, it was called Project Gutenberg, but if you search NOT on the internet; it is a site with countless ebooks that can be download in various forms to your computer, kindle, ereader, and... Read More
