Book Description

Early Years Series January 2002
A guide to the principles and methods of Steiner Waldorf Early Childhood education. Lynne Oldfield draws on kindergarten experience from around the world with stories, helpful insights, lively observations and pictures. She invites the reader to explore Steiner Waldorf kindergartens. Here teachers and parents believe that children's early learning is profound, that childhood matters and that the early years should be enjoyed, not rushed through. The book addresses the following issues: how do kindergartens enable healthy child development?; what is "movement based learning"?; creative play - why is it so crucial?; how do children learn through imitation and rhythm?; why is nourishing the senses important?; and when are children ready for school?

4.0 out of 5 stars Enlightening, October 5, 2006

This review is from: Free to Learn (P) (Early Years Series) (Paperback)
Reading this book gave me a great understanding into Steiner education. It was the first Steiner book I read and made me change my whole view on which method to use when homeschooling my kids. It has lots of examples from schools around the world about how children respond to this type of nurturing and caring. It won't tell you how to teach using this approach but it is a great spring board, will spark your mind and give you a little taste of the endless possibilities. It is certainly well worth the read.
