Incorrect Product Description,
By Mr. Thirty-three (New York, NY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Free Sailin (Audio CD)
The product description provided by Amazon is incorrect. That description refers to Hoyt's superior 1969 album, My Griffin Is Gone. This pleasant but ultimately mediocre album came out in 1978. I used to own it on a double length cassette coupled with the similar sounding Snowblind Friend from 1977. If you took the best songs from those two albums, that grouping of songs would warrant four stars. Each album on its own deserves three stars a piece. If you like Hoyt, you're not going to go wrong with Free Sailin' but don't expect a masterpiece.

EXCELLENT MUSIC!!,

FREE SAILING MAY BE EVEN BETTER THAN SNOWBLIND FRIEND. HOYT WAS AT AN ABSOLUTE PEAK DURING THE '70S. HIS SONGWRITING WAS IMPECCABLE. HIS DELIVERY UNLIKE NO ONE ELSE. THE CHICKS DOING THE BACKUP VOCALS SOUND LIKE THE ANGELS SINGING. MARK MAGWIRE LINCOLN NE

Pretty good Hoyt Axton CD,

Although some of Hoyt's other albums are better, this one is definitely worth having. Jana Lee Dare cowrote Them Downers, and does a great job with Hoyt singing it.

Stuff piles of wasted ex hippies could justify their continued existence on, while rollin' them dice and hopin to hell that Semi Truck coming up the road doan roll over 'em
(the Semi was whatever you wannit to reprezent)..as a Coast to Coaster, it could be good or bad/ another ironic JWF-ism that really never made it to any readable volume. One thing is certain. Hoyt Axton wrote and sang some great stuff and FEW people even my age hardly know the man aside from Jeremiah. |
