This review is from: Free Soilers: Third Party Politics, 1848-54 (Hardcover)
If you want learn about the anti-slavery Free Soil Party this is where you go. With precious little written on the subject, it is clearly the definitive work. Well researched, nicely written, it contains a wealth of information. When you're done with this book you will have a rather full understanding the place of the Free Soil party in U.S. history: how the abolitionist Liberty Party led to Free Soil and then in turn to the Republican Party, Lincoln and civil war. This is an impressive piece of scholarship and an outstanding read to boot.
