5.0 out of 5 stars Very cool & diverse compilation
Various musical styles blended very nicely in this comp which makes it easy to listen to over & over. Nothing like a multidimentional CD. Very cool, twisted & heavy version of Highway to Hell by Nashville Pussy; Boys in Black by L7 is in a similar heavy vain & Zeke's Wrathchild is an even heavier & faster song as one would expect. The Supersuckers (with Eddie Vedder),...

3.0 out of 5 stars The Purpose
I haven't bought the CD, but I've listened to a few tracks and I'm intrigued by the purpose of it. Christy, the other reviewer, sounds a bit biased in her review since she doesn't agree with the purpose of it--trying to give 3 possibly innocent men another chance at being proven guilty before being put to death. The music sounds very charged and powerful in its lyrics,...

Very cool, twisted & heavy version of Highway to Hell by Nashville Pussy; Boys in Black by L7 is in a similar heavy vain & Zeke's Wrathchild is an even heavier & faster song as one would expect. The Supersuckers (with Eddie Vedder), Joe Strummer & Tom Waits songs bring it back down to a slower & reflective state. Nice cool off. Can't believe the one reviewer stating he has only heard of two of the artists! I have burned a few copies of this CD so I can toss it around in the car/garage & have another sitting in my office at work.

5.0 out of 5 stars AMAZING, January 2, 2001

With the likes of Eddie Vedder, Tom Waits, Steve Earle, L7 and a host of others, this is a very prestigious compilation. That all of these brave artists had the courage to come forward and voice their opinion about this controversial injustice is inspiring beyond words.

It is also important for people to know that proceeds from this disc do not go toward legal costs, lawyers or a new trial. Proceeds are being divided between two funds: Part of it is held in a trust fund for the three when they are eventually released from prison. The remaining is being used to help others who are unlawfully imprisoned find justice.

I can't think of a cooler way to spend my money. Great music, great cause! Thank you Aces & Eights!

5.0 out of 5 stars who's the idiot?, June 2, 2004
This review is from: Free the West Memphis 3 (Audio CD)
I don't really believe this CD deserves 5 stars...I'm just trying to balance out the ridiculous 1 star that the other moron gave it.

It's a fine disc with good to very good songs on it. The Supersuckers song is amazing, as are a number of the others.

This is not only a great but also an important album. The Memphis 3 are Jason Baldwin, Jessie Misskelly Jr., and Damien Echols who have been found guilty on three counts capital murder, they did not commit. At this time, despite the lack of any hard evidence, these three boys are incarcerated. I hope this record will bring this injustice to the attention of many people who may not yet know about it. As far as the music is concerned it's great. This CD will stay in my player for a while. Many bands I love.

5.0 out of 5 stars Shut up, October 19, 2000

Hey, Christy! Do you really think it's that bad for them to get a new trial? Isn't it worth it to save three MORE possible innocent people? Just because YOU think they're guilty, doesn't mean they should die. Think about it. How much harm would it do anyone to have them retried? If they're guilty, then they'll go back to death row. If they're innocent then we just saved the lives of three innocent men.

Also, don't hate the musicians because of their veiws. They have a right to put out a compalation supporting ANYTHING THEY WANT TO. It's their right.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stop Censorship, October 22, 2000

An effort is underway to ban this CD from record stores. Better buy it quick. People acting on behalf of the victims of this horrendous crime are using bias and misinformation to scare record stores into banning the CD. Christy (the other reviewer) is from my hometown. While this crime is gruesome, I disagree that we should stop hearing about it. I urge everyone interested in this case to read all sides of the evidence, testimony and police reports before making up their minds. If you do not want to buy it, that is your CHOICE. As far as proceeds from the CD....they are going into a fund that will provide college money for the convicted when AND only WHEN their verdicts are overturned. NO MONEY FROM THE SALE OF THIS CD IS FOR LEGAL FUNDS TO FREE THE CONVICTED.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Album / Important Case, October 14, 2000
This review is from: Free the West Memphis 3 (Audio CD)
This CD has a really great mixture of musical styles, moods and genres. The highly diverse songs all flow together beautifully. I strongly recommend it! It's interesting, fun and sad.

I also urge you to learn more about this extremly important case. A horrible crime was committed back in 1993 and three poor little boys were murdered, brutally and savagely killed. But another horrible injustice was done (and continues to be done) to the West Memphis Three -- and the REAL killer(s) remains unpunished for the crime.

Check out their website to learn more.

This is an awesome record! I had heard that the Eddie Vedder track Poor Girl was on this Album (previoulsy only on Napster) - this is better than anything on the Peal Jam Album - it rocks! The other songs from Nashville Pussy to Tom Waits are really cool - I don't know much about the West Memphis Three, but I will check out the video that I hear they often air on HBO.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Benefit Album To Fight Injustice, January 10, 2005

The West Memphis Three is one of the mosty public and note worthy case of gross injustic and mistrial in the United States legal system in recent history. If you don't already know, Three guys were arrested and covicted with the murder of three young boys. There is no evidence linking them to the murders; there is no real motive; and, there are a large number of witnesses that claim they were in school at the time, IN SCHOOL! But because they were different than the rest of the town, because they had the nerve to listen to Metallica and read Stephen King, two of them have been given life sentences, and one is on Death Row.
The cd is to raise money for there legal fees and other monetary needs they have. I implore anyone who loves justice and wants our American justice system to know that they can not get away with this, buy this album! Even if you don't like the music, buy it anyway.
And to the music fan the wrote them off so quitckly on May 11, 2004, to you I say get your facts straight! Are you such a sheep as to believe the courts infalable? Some day you could be in their position, being acussed of something that you are innocent of, and wouldn't you want people to help fight to free you? THEY WERE IN SCHOOL! There is no way they could have commited the murders. If you still think they are guilty now, you are as wrong as the courts. Think heavily before you pass judgement on those you know not.

The music sounds very charged and powerful in its lyrics, probably due to the strong beliefs of the artists involved, and most of the artists aren't very well-known, at least by me in my limited knowledge.
