Great Musical Score, Poor Bands,
By Jeff (Boiling Springs, PA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Free Willy: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
I just picked up Free Willy today, and I have very mixed feelings about it. I, for one got the CD for the musical score, but hoped the songs would be at least good enough where I could listen to them The only song that is entertaining on this CD is Michael Jackson's "Will you be there" But why do you have to put it on twice, when essentially, it's the same exact thing! The rest of the bands on here are just horrendous, and when it comes to tracks 2-5, you might as well just skip it. The thing that keeps this CD from being 1 star, is the wonderful work by composer Basil Poledouris. Although there are only a few main themes to the music, they are all magical. They are classical, yet Poledouris is able to make them snappy too. Perhaps, the recording studio should have considered to put all the music he did on here, instead of these pathetic things called bands. If you are looking to buy this CD for the score, buy it at once. If you are looking to get it for the bands, I suggest you look somewhere else.

michael jackson's funeral,
By tall paul (saginaw michigan) - See all my reviews

I bought this cd after hearing a selection on this albulm sung at Michael's funeral. (Will you be there) That one song sung by Michael Jackson is worth the price of the cd.

If you're contemplating buying this CD I suggest you do so now before it goes out of print. I held off buying one at Amazon.com and ended up buying it from an Amazon affiliate two days later because Amazon no longer had it.I did not see the Free Willy movie, nor did I see the Beatles' Yellow Submarine movie. What is interesting is that the soundtracks for both have something in common- the curious use of both rock 'n roll (pop) and classical music. This does not bother me at all, having grown up in the formative years of R&R the son of a church organist and choir master. I chanced upon this CD when searching for Michael Jackson's song "Will you be there", following his death. The CD had the song as both first and last songs and I liked that; I already own two of Michael's best known CDs. There as two versions of the Yellow Submarine soundtrack- one with all Beatles compositions and the original with some classical music composed by Beatles manager George Martin. Unlike some critics the original CD is very fine with me. I love both Rock and classical music. The classical pieces here are very good, as are the pop songs.
