As one who walks the path of Christianity, with a sincere appreciation for Christian mysticism, especially the Rhineland mystics (Eckhart, Tauler and Suso)I found myself gradually drawn to Eastern methods of meditation and ultimately Zen Buddhism. Zen practice has been an integral ingredient along the journey, one that has given new life to Christian roots. I was ten years into a diligent study within the scope of comparative religious studies, a specific interest of mine, and as such, devoured much literature related to many expressions of the inner life. I actually stumbled into this book, unlike others that were or usually are suggested to me by friends. Perhaps this is why Wolfgang Kopps' masterpiece has made such an impact-it found me-I did not look for it-never heard of it. The title grabbed me-it's promotion of guidance along an integrated path of East/West spirituality. Since 1996, this book has become for me a bible in it's own right. Kopp is a true master. Brilliant. He weaves the fabric of both traditions beyond a "good read." This book is a wonderful teaching. A great resource of enlightenment as you move along the path. No matter how long I have had this book, it never ceases to reveal fresh insights. It's like having a teacher in the palm of your hand. I have four copies.I have gifted friends with their own. I can assure you, it is a treasure. Many books get read and shelved. This book will become a companion. It is a must for the serious student of the inner life. Kopp blew me away as no other. He takes Christian Gospel to a new place of light and awakening, with insights gleaned from well known and reputable mystics, and at the same time, he integrates an essence of Zen that results in a transforming experience. Words fail. You simply must have this book.
