I have used, the ring sling, the Baby Bjorn, the pouch sling, to name a few, but the Mei Tai is by far my favorite.

I am a mother of 3 and have gone tried many different types of baby carriers, and this is by far my favorite one. To be fair, I did not buy from Amazon, but directly from BabyHawk. Their website is awesome & I was able to design my own. If you don't mind waiting a little longer, its the way to go.

I have used, the ring sling, the Baby Bjorn, the pouch sling, to name a few, but the Mei Tai is by far my favorite. My first child LOVED to be in a carrier, but the ring sling started to really hurt my back once she was a few months old. I couldn't carrier her in it for more than half an hour or so. My second child HATED all carriers - but I hadn't tried the Mei Tai - I bought a pouch sling (Hotsling) which he screamed whenever I put him in. So we tried a Baby Bjorn, which he liked for a week, then screamed. With my third, I decided to wait & try out all those above. The Ring Sling was too bulky to take anywhere (its a padded style). The Baby Bjorn was just plain hard to put on. The pouch sling he outgrew in a few weeks (or maybe we outgrew together - I am 5'10 and the Hotslings are NOT adjustable).

I researched carriers & read many reviews before deciding on BabyHawk Mei Tais. IMO the pros & cons are as follows:

PROS
ADJUSTABLE: Unlike the pouch sling the design of the sling allows for growth of the child & variance in size of the wearer - one size really does fit all
MULTIPOSITIONAL: Unlike the Baby Bjorn - and the pouch sling to an extent - the Mei Tai can be worn many different ways - front, back, different ways to tie. There is a way that will feel best for you.

I really loved this carrier - for MYSELF. It makes carrying my 17 pound baby SO easy! However - since day one, he's hated it. He's really uncomfortable in it, and I can see why:

-The strap that you can either wrap around the baby's back or legs seems to keep him in a rather uncomfortable position if it's on his back, and if I try wrapping at the legs, it digs into them.

-He also doesn't like to be held right up against me, he likes to be able to see what's going on around him, and this carrier doesn't really allow for that.

-This carrier is also made of very thick fabric, which doesn't really allow for air flow, so even in decent weather, I'd pull him out and he'd be sweating.

-I also find that I have to readjust and keep retying the carrier every half hour or so. He just keeps slipping down and getting more uncomfortable.

We've tried 3 carriers now, and the one he likes best is the Baby Bjorn Air Carrier. It's harder on my back, but he's the most comfortable in it. I did look up several videos on how to wrap the Mei Tai, and tried following them. I still had all the issues listed above.

Wish it had worked for us, because it was expensive. If you're interested, try borrowing one first.

I am a slender person. I had an infantino carrier with my first child and the straps and buckles always jabbed me in the ribs. Within an hour my back would start to hurt along with my shoulders. I decided to spend the money on this without a test drive with my second child...

As a newborn my baby loved it. When she was too big for the newborn carry she would cry when I put her in it. It was my mistake...as I didn't read the directions thoroughly (they weren't dreadfully long). The directions were great and simple including tips for smaller babies which was our case. After I figured out why she was uncomfortable she enjoyed the ride. I also sometimes carry my 2 year old on my back. She is only 20 pounds so it's not too rough on my back. She loves it. She giggles the whole time she's inside.

Pros:
When this is on correctly there is absolutely NO PRESSURE on my shoulders or back. The shoulders are padded so it's really comfortable.

I love that this holds the baby up in natural positions (side carry, front carry).

The reversible material is great. It's tough and durable. Not to mention easy to wash when needed.

The designs are awesome. I get a lot of positive comments on it. If you really want to go all out you are able to design your own.

My baby's head doesn't flop backward when she falls asleep. Her head falls onto my chest naturally.

Cons:
It takes a little effort to fold it back up. Most of the time I toss it in the back seat until I have time to fold it back up into the carrying case.

It can definitely become a heater for both mom/dad and baby during warmer seasons.

I've been using this carrier for several months. My baby is now 8 months old and I'm actually wearing her as I type this review. The carrier is very comfortable and easy to use. My baby passes right out when I put her in it. We go out for long walks with it and I can't complain. I also own a babyhawk and do prefer the babyhawk b/c it's slightly more comfortable, but this carrier is well worth a try. Like everything, I would try to get it for less than the asking price. There are many sites on the web that offer this carrier for a lot less then amazon.
