Lancets Review,
I prefer to use the Freestyle Lancets rather than the generic over-the-counter brand of lancets. Freestyle Lancets are more sturdy to use and are easier to cap when I have finished using them than the generic brand.

These work well in the lancet device that came with my FreeStyle Lite kit. The fact that the little plastic piece that originally covers the metal lancet tip is also made to be turned and snapped over the used metal tip is a great design feature. It has a flat side that sits still on a level surface allowing the lancet tip to be pushed into the cavity made to accept the business end of the lancet until they snap together. More of a commodity and priced that way, thank Heaven,

Those of us who frequently must test our blood-sugar know that the price of blood-glucose testing strips is outrageous because the blood meters use different systems and different codes and are generally incompatible with each other, leading to a seller's market and a "captive audience" for the strips.
Happily, there is a lot more flexibility in the lancet family. The ones here work not only with FreeStyle and FreeStyle Lite injectors but with many other injectors as well. Thus, some measure of price competition applies. That's a major part of the reason why these lancets cost a dime apiece while the testing strips run up to a dollar apiece. As long as your lancets fit your injector, you can shop around. These blue lancets from the FreeStyle people (Abbott) are sturdy and work well and are a little more consistent and precise in the way the lancet is oriented (i.e., 90 degrees) than a drugstore-brand I used later on. Shop around, get a good price, and then use what you want. I don't think you'll be disapppointed with FreeStyle Sterile Lancets. .
