Excellently written, spell-binding account,

This review is from: Freed to Kill: The True Story of Serial Murderer Larry Eyler (Paperback)
I met Ms. Kolarik at a writer's seminar in NYC many years ago & read the book after meeting her. The book was written so well that it felt as if I were there, watching Larry Eyler go through the motions of his killing sprees. It was a terror-filled journey through the eyes of a troubled killer, captivatingly captured through Ms. Kolarik's skill as a writer. If you're a true-crime reader, this book is a MUST-read!

very tragic story,
This review is from: Freed to Kill: The True Story of Larry Eyler (Hardcover)
I cannot believe Larry Eyler was set free to kill again. This story haunted me for nights, very well written, very thourough details. I feel so sorry for of course the victims but even more for their families. Larry Eyler died in prison of aids I'm not sure if he ever confessed. There was a conspiracy theory that he had an accomplice that has never been caught, if anyone has any info let me know.

This review is from: Freed to Kill: The True Story of Serial Murderer Larry Eyler (Paperback)
I was first introduced to this book by my boyfriends mother in 1990. She is the birth mother of Steve Agan, one of Larry Eyler's victims. She was very upset when we finally obtained a copy and read the gruesome details of her sons death. When I read this book, I felt for their family, for all the families of all the victims. When Steve was killed, I believe it was his father and his stepmother who identified the body.

Will we ever know the entire truth???,

This review is from: Freed to Kill: The True Story of Serial Murderer Larry Eyler (Paperback)
I read this book back in 1991 and again in 2005 and it is sickening to know he was freed to kill again. After searching the subject on the internet and reading this book I am convinced that Eyler had help with his crimes and we will never know the truth. I recommend this book to any true crime reader.

Perhaps because at the time of these murders, we as a nation were absorbed in other issues. But the significance of these serial murders and the blunders that let them continue should be a lesson for every law enforcement investigator. I followed these cases closely since at the time I was a Chicago police officer and was able to identify victim Bridges, since I had issued him a curfew citation some days before his death. A tattoo on the web of his hand and other marks which I had noted on the citation served as the preliminary identification when I was shown a photo of the corpse by the primary investigators. The book is extremely detailed and accurate, and also shows that there are many unanswered questions related to these killings, and the true number of victims may never be known.

Basically - 'Freed to kill' - Larry Eyler......just like Dahmer!! It happens far too often, just like this other book will show. But dont blame me - Ive never been on the civil pay list, you'll see what I mean.

Hard book to get through,

This review is from: Freed to Kill: The True Story of Larry Eyler (Hardcover)
I found this book in a second hand book store in July 2000.I tried reading it and couldn't get into it. It just didn't grab me. The authors certainly will not give Ann Rule any competition, that's for sure. I put it away and didn't pick it up again until two weeks ago (3-1/2 years later) and I finally read it, but it was a struggle. Not well written and it's really plodding and slow-moving. Also, I wanted to reach into the book and slap some sense into the wife of Eyler's lover, John D. (who died of AIDS in 1990). That woman's self-esteem must have been sub-zero if she was willing to settle for being a beard and risk both her physical and emotional health. I can't recommend this one! |
